Employment opportunities in the creative media sector
1.
2. TYPES OF CONTRACT
Explain the following types of contracts, including advantages and
disadvantages
Full-time employment means that you are paid a monthly salary for a given
amount of hours per month. This salary is paid despite public holidays.
Part-time workers rarely receive benefits or paid for sick leave and time off
for holidays etc.
3. Freelance is someone who is self employed, the advantages are you can work
your own hours but if the company was to go bankrupt you could be left
with no money.
shift work is when a company is open 24 hours the disadvantage of this are high
energy bills.
Permanent you get paid directly whilst receiving benefits.
Temporary workers work for a company temporarily, this is good for experience
but it is not a secure job.
4. Voluntary work is where you volunteer to work for a company, this work is
rarely paid.
Casual workers can be called in a morning and told that they have work
today, some times there can be no work for days but sometimes there
can be a lot of work available.
Hourly paid workers get paid a set amount per hour, if you work overtime
you get time and a half for each hour. Sometimes hourly pay means you
earn less money.
Piecework; Supervision may be needed to ensure units are to a high
standard. An advantage of this is that workers will try harder to get a
higher wage.
5. RECRUITMENT WITHIN THE CREATIVE MEDIA
SECTOR (EXPLAIN WHAT IS PLUS THE
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES)
Job centres & careers advice People can go to job centres to get help with
looking for jobs, people who work in these job centres are trained to
help people develop CV’s and other things that would give a greater
chance of employment.
Local & national press is a non-profit organization that provides training for
journalists and awards excellence. An advantage of this is people are
awarded for good work but the company only specializes in journalism.
6. personal contacts & word of mouth help team building however it might not
work and could make it difficult to work.
Networking creates a positive working environment but could divide the
company if some workers don’t agree.
Internet helps people to connect and find files around the world but it can
be dangerous to a certain audience.
