1. SAY:
‘overcrowded classrooms are not
helping’
‘break classes into 2 or 3 sessions and
group students per session’
‘focus more on practical situations’
‘i need a job but i’m afraid i’m not
qualified’
‘my brother is still looking for work 5
years after graduation’
‘i don’t trust the education i received’
‘i have a brother abroad. I’m leaving’
‘what? You think i should start a
business? Where is the money?’
‘school is quite unreal’
‘i’ll see what the govt plans’
‘i’m concerned but i’ll be fine’
‘you know i have to help my siblings
after school. I’m frightened’
DO:
Interview was conducted while final
year university students waited for a
lecture to commence. The interviewee
exuded frustration and acted as if the
lecture was a mere formality and of no
importance to improving his grasp of
the course
THINK & FEEL:
1. Lack of motivation to study.
2. Exaggeration of the problem to
sound convincing.
3. Interviewee probably has problems
with grades and not looking
forward to good job prospects.
4. Money problems.
The student needs to be made to believe in the system and make the most of the education
he’s receiving, this is because the same education he complained so bitterly about has
brilliant products. While the standard needs to be improved, belief in and devotion to the
present system will do the student and many others some real good. We need an education
system that makes the most out of the present standard while working to improve it.
