Games aren't all that different from journalism. They follow established rules, provide clear context, and having a good story always helps. But unlike most media, games allow for a safer, more controlled environment, allowing educators to direct the user experience and ensure a focus on desired skills and content. For these reasons and more, games are an excellent medium for teaching news literacy skills-critical skills that are becoming increasingly important, almost in parallel with the proliferation of learning games. These are the slides from Emma Humphries talk at the 2018 Intentional Play Summit that explore these ideas and highlight iCivics' newest game title, which happens to be a news literacy game!
