Emigrants and helpers (islamiat)
1. Emigrants and Helpers (Ansars and Muhajireen)
Q1: Write an account on Emigrants & Helpers.
Ans: Emigrants (Muhajireen) were those venerable men who had professed
faith in Muhammad(SAW) in the Makkan period. They were the enlightened
group of people who despite having being born and brought up in the dark
atmosphere of ignorance and polytheism heededthe teachings of Holy Quran
and admitted the falsity of their ancestral religion. They sufferedall kinds of
persecutions. They were mercilessly beaten, hung upside down, starved,
stretched on burning cinders and dragged on hot sand. In order to preserve
their faith they immigrated twice to Abyssinia and finally to Madina. They
abandoned their goods. Home and property, kith and kin and set out in the
way of Allah. The Quran says: ‘When those who have adopted the faith,
who have migrated and fought for Allah’s cause, may hope for His
Grace”. They sublimated their needs for the cause of Islam fighting for and if
necessary dying as martyrs for Islam.
Helpers (Ansars) are the people of Madina who invited the Prophet (SAW)
and his followers to their own town and took the pledges of Aqaba. Their
hospitality and good will made the migration possible. They sacrificed a lot
for Islam and Muhajireen. They considered Muhajireen as brother- in –faith.
One Ansar, Saad bin Arabi even agreed to divide his wives amongst his
Muhajir brother by divorcing one of his wives. These Ansars participated in
all the battles but never claimed war booty. Prophet (SAW) called them
Ansar un Nabi (Helpers of Prophet (SAW).The Quran says: ‘They showed
their affection to such as came to them for refuge and entertained
no desire in their hearts for things given to them but gave them
preferences over themselves even though poverty was their own
lot”. The Ansar stood with the Holy Prophet ()ﷺ through thick and thin right
from the Battle of Badr, where Hazrat Saad bin Muaz, on behalf of the Ansar,
pledged allegiance and unequivocal support to the cause of Islam. They did
this, even though they were not required to do so by the Pledges of Aqabah.
After the death of the Holy Prophet ()ﷺ, they gave up their right and
reconciled with the suggestion that the next caliph ought to be from
the Quraish. Along with the Muhajirin, they too made tremendous
contribution to the spread of Islam by conquest and preaching.
2. Q2: What lessons can Muslims learn from the life of Emigrants & Helpers?
(4)
Ans: The Ansars helped their Muslim brother by sharing all of their belongings
with them. From this statement Muslims can learn to share their personal
things with a brother in need to get a reward from Allah in life Hereafter. The
Ansars made tremendous contribution to the spread of Islam by preaching.
Muslims shouldalso spread the knowledge of Islam to others like the Ansars.
The Muhajireen remained steadfast to their religion and didn’t give up in their
persecution period. Muslims shouldalso have strong faith in Allah even in
difficult times.
