5. The Skills Roadmap through the BBus
The Skills Roadmap is designed to help identify relevant skills and evidence throughout the degree that
could be included in the final year CV ePortfolio.
It provides students with a connection between their assessments in each subject and the skills
achieved by successfully completing these assessment pieces.
A Skills Reflection workbook is also available to all BBus
students. Work through the activities to identify skills, knowledge,
attributes and experience!
The Skills Roadmap
6. Compulsory Preparation for
Work Integrated Learning (WIL)
Students should start preparing for their final year WIL experience by starting to build their PebblePad
CV ePortfolios from first year.
There is also a compulsory component of WIL preparation which involves the use of the JCU Career
Development Program. To be eligible for WIL, students must successfully complete prescribed career
development modules and quizzes from their first year.
There are six modules and quizzes to complete in 1st year,
six in 2nd year and three in 3rd year. Each module takes
approximately 1 hour to complete and each quiz has 10
multi-choice questions.
All BBus students have access to a WIL Preparation
workbook in their PebblePad resource store which serves
as a guide and a place to track progress.
7. To further develop the skills employers are seeking in graduates, students have the opportunity to
attain the Professional Development Certificate (PDC).
The Professional Development Certificate (PDC) is an additional personal development
pathway available to every BBus student, across all campuses. Recognising the potential that
extra-curricular activity has for student development and employability, the PDC involves the
voluntary completion of a sequence of non-accredited extra-curricular activities over each year
of the degree, designed to further enhance the soft skills essential to future success together
with the competencies valued by prospective employers.
The PDC
8. The PDC Workbook
To attain the PDC, a prescribed amount of supplementary extra-curricular activities must be
completed over the course of the Bachelor of Business degree. A PDC Workbook is available in
every BBus student's PebblePad resource store which presents a step by step guide to the PDC.
Students wishing to participate in the PDC must use the workbook - it explains the activities
required and is where each activity is evidenced as it's completed. Students who successfully
complete the requirements will receive a certificate endorsed by the College Dean.
Each activity must be evidenced in the workbook in order to attain the PDC.

Editor's Notes
Introducing Pebble Pad into our 3 year business degree commences with an induction presentation during orientation week. Several 1st year subjects have embedded workbooks and blogs into assessment items.
2nd year students continue to build their assets and begin to develop folio pages.
Final year students complete their core WIL subject where they produce a full ePortfolio.
WIL experiences in the BBus escalate from low risk opportunities involving observation and simulation in first year to completion of one of three capstone WIL subjects in the final. The Professional Internship option provides students with an opportunity to extend their learning experiences from the classroom into the workplace by completing 100hrs supervised work experience with an approved employer.
Internship students also source an advertisement for a real job that would be suitable for them to apply for upon graduation and create a CV ePortfolio which includes a cover letter, employment and education history, and skills based pages which provide evidence of meeting the selection criteria.

PebblePad is used to both help scope out the project proposal and present final project outcomes
Students who choose to enroll in the multi disciplinary Project work together in groups combined with members from the various majors in the degree to to produce a practical outcome for real project sourced from an industry partner
Students are provided with a customized project proposal workbook which provides instructions on how to clarify the project organization and scope, complete an action plan including a gantt chart and project risk management. Importantly students prepare and link to their project organization section, a skills based ePortfolio which identifies and evidences their skills relevant to successful completion of the proposed project.

Final project outcomes for both subjects are presented through a project ePortfolio which has pages covering introduction and background to the project, overview of the issue or problem addressed, project methodology and management (including links to meeting agendas and minutes for the multi-disciplinary project subject) and summary of key outcomes – including links to final project outcome documents provided to the employer or industry partner. These portfolios are also used as the basis for oral presentations.
