Elvis Presley was born in 1935 in Mississippi and moved to Memphis as a teenager where he began his musical career. In the 1950s, he rose to fame with hits that helped create the rock and roll genre. Nicknamed "The King of Rock and Roll", Elvis had tremendous popularity among young female fans. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Elvis starred in Hollywood films and gave live performances before his health and performance quality declined in the mid-1970s due to drug abuse. He died unexpectedly in 1977 at his Graceland home in Memphis.
