4. Elizabeth was born on September 7, 1533. She was born to king
Henry VIII and to her mother Anne Boleyn. Henry VIII was
already married before he was married to Anne. He was married
to Catherine of Aragon. Catherine had three boys that were
either stillborn or they died shortly after they were born.
Catherine had a daughter and her name was Mary. Mary became
Queen but she died shortly after her reign of five years. Due to
that she was not producing fertile boys he asked the pope if he
could divorce her, the pope said no but Henry VIII did it anyway.
Anne never had a boy either so Henry divorced her. She was
brought to trial and was found guilty of adultery and was
beheaded. HeQueen Elizabethnry did have a son name Edward
VI.

5. The Elizabethan Era (1558-1603) is named
after Queen Elizabeth I. This period in
England’s history is considered a time of
great prosperity, religious peace, scientific
discovery, and the arts. Some argue that
the Elizabethan era was England’s greatest
era, while others argue that the Period of
Tudor Kings and Queens, that followed,
was greater.

6. When Queen Elizabeth took over rule, England
was in financial trouble. Previous rulers had put
the country into a great amount of debt.
Elizabethan EraUnder Elizabeth, not only was
England able to become debt free, but also over
several years Elizabeth was able to save up a
surplus of money for the country. During this
period, England also benefited from having a
government that was well organized and
effective.

9. The arts, theater in particular, is
what the Elizabethan area is most
known for. William Shakespeare’s
dramas were first performed
during this time. Music, poetry,
and literature were very important
