ADDITION AND RENOVATION, BETHESDA, MD:
An open plan within a traditional framework was the Owner’s goal - for ease of entertaining, for working at home, or for just hanging out as a family. We pushed out to the side, eliminating a useless appendage, to expand the dining room and to create a new family room. Large openings connect rooms as well as the garden, while allowing spacial definition. Additional renovations included updating the kitchen and master bath, as well as creating a formal office paneled in stained cherry wood.
TWO STORY ADDITION, WASHINGTON, DC: A family kitchen with a focus on the yard was the Owner’s intent. Plus some space to cloister away in private luxury. Down went the useless undersized garage, and up went a two story addition. With space to drop off incoming junk, space to eat, space to lounge, space to work, and a connection to a new patio, the kitchen fulfills the goal of a room to live in. Perched above with windows all around, the new Owner’s Suite . . .
ONE STORY ADDITION, WASHINGTON, DC: Because of the narrowness of the lot, we created the new kitchen as an atrium between the main house and the library allowing as much light into the existing portion of the house as possible. This new interior courtyard leads out to a side deck and down to the new garden shared with the adjoining neighbor.
TWO STORY ADDITION, UNIVERSITY PARK, MD:
“There’s something out there,” they said at our first meeting, “we just can’t tell what it is.” A brick monolith with midget windows divided the house from the yard, so we punched some larger openings through the wall and terraced down from a treehouse sitting room - to a step-down family room - to a deck - to a patio. Now the house and the yard share common ground.
ADDITION AND RENOVATION, CABIN JOHN, MD:
By placing a small addition to the rear and a larger addition to the side, we have converted a dysfunctional bungalow into an effective family home. The additions maintain the original scale by being differentiated as discrete pieces rather than one large mass. Materials and detailing blend the parts into a cohesive whole. Inside we flipped the stair to work better with the entry sequence as well as to be more central to the enlarged home.
This document discusses how to identify "red flags" when screening resumes and applications. Some potential red flags include incomplete applications, unexplained gaps in employment, job hopping between positions of less than a year, decreasing responsibilities over time, omitted or incomplete education details, spelling errors, and providing inappropriate personal information. The document provides suggestions for questions to ask candidates about these red flags during the screening process.
This document provides guidance on how to nurse a patient at home, including managing medications through various routes of administration, preventing falls, reducing unplanned hospital admissions, improving functional outcomes and quality of life, and managing wounds and pressure ulcers through proper positioning. Key aspects of medication management include ensuring the correct patient, medication, time, dosage, route, and documentation. Fall prevention strategies differ for self-mobilizing versus bedridden patients.
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) involves assessing danger, responding to check consciousness and breathing, performing chest compressions at a rate of 100 times per minute to a depth of 5 cm, opening the airway, and giving two breaths during chest compression cycles to supply oxygen to the victim whose heart has stopped. CPR should continue until emergency services arrive to take over or a doctor pronounces death, as the goal is to restart the heart and prevent brain death, which can occur within 4-6 minutes without circulation.
