Lines are one of the basic elements of art. There are 5 types of lines - vertical, horizontal, diagonal, zigzag and curved. Vertical lines run straight up and down, horizontal lines run straight left to right in a parallel fashion, and diagonal lines slant in any direction other than vertical or horizontal. Zigzag lines form a series of joined diagonal lines, while curved lines bend and change direction gradually. Lines can also be organic, taking on irregular, asymmetrical curves found in nature, or inorganic, following rigid geometrical patterns used in man-made structures.
