-In problematic soil conditions with High Soil Resistivity, multiple rod method Earth Grid/ Mesh or
Lattice Pattern Structure is highly recommended for achieving desired earth resistance.
- Earth Grid is a combination of Vertical & Horizontal Conductors with Exothermic Welded Joints/
Connection by considering MULTILAYER SOIL MODELING using CDEGS SOFTWARE
- Complying standard IEEE 80.
- Purpose of grid is to provide Safe Fault Current dissipation with any damage to equipment or the

- Grid calculation criteria is to get Allowable Step & Touch Voltage, GPR & to satisfy desired earth

that these material invites theft and be sold for
recycling purposes.
• To get positive results, copper clad steel – a theft-
proof solution is availed for the protection of
personnel and property, that is undoubtedly
economical in cost and offer longer life span for
outdoor purposes or when buried in ground.
Facts about Earthing Material
• Copper Clad Aluminium is also preferred due to its
anti-corrosive nature and theft-resistant characteristics;
the product have zero scrap value in the market. It is
successfully used for outdoor grounding purposes.
8. Why to Choose Copper Bonded Rod Over GI/MS or Pure Copper?

Quality:
- No standard specifications are given for GI/MS. Only provisions for galvanization are available but market corruption
has abolished those specifications. One get only 20-30 micron coating in place of 70-80 micron coating.
- Use of Copper Bonded Material is recommended in IEEE 80, IS 3043 and NBC 2016.
Cost effective:
- GI/MS Products use low grade of steel & does not support equipment’s life due to its corrosive nature. Moreover,
they show significant deterioration while pure copper invites theft.
- Copper bonded rod is virtually free of corrosion and provide 40+ year life.
Installation Time :
- Complex transportation of GI Strips. Installation time and practices are easier.
- Installation of Copper Clad Steel Conductor is easier and time-saver.
NOTE – On comparing performances of strips and round conductors, round conductors have been recommended by most
of the national and international standards as earthing & lightning components.

• For earthing connections & electrical jointing,
mechanical jointing system still prevails!
• I.e. Nut & Bolt, welding, clamping, brazing etc.
• Contact points of connections suffer voids & gaps
which results in corrosion, rust and oxide and
thus, early deterioration.
• Resistance of mechanical connections increases
with time and this alters the conductive
properties of connections.
• Just 8-20% contact surface area.
• Gets corrode over the period of time due to
atmospheric corrosion.

Protection Angle method using vertical rod is the best suited method for up to 25 kW projects.
Later, shadow as well as installation will be an issue.
27. • Transients generated due to LEMP (Lightning Electromagnetic Impulse) that appears as over-voltage and/or over-
current.
• Surges can originate out of the structure/ within the structure created by lightning flashes striking incoming lines
or nearby ground and then transmitted to electrical & electronic systems via these lines.
