5 Key Steps
We Can Make Halfway 2030 and to see ourselves a
little Better: To Give People ( a chance for) some
Peace, Well-Being and Good Hopes.
These steps are based on in-depth and hands-on experience- in practice- , over the last
decade. These steps are in no-ways elusive or prescriptive: but they paint you a picture of in
what landscape we are presently in, and what would deserve our very (leadership) attention.,

2. 1. Peace
Without Peace, Nothing Moves, or Nothing is Secure or Sustainable. War destroys securities- in
Energy, in Economies, in People, in Communities.
If there is War, Government Officials and Energy Leadership start to speak about Energy
Security, and making Energy affordable and available- towards their own Population, First.
War stimulates Walls, Distrusts, Greed, Egotism and Mis-calculations.
So- it is Peace, that we are to be after. In our Governments and in our Corporate Boardrooms.
Advocating, Lobbying and Working e v e r y d a y for Peace (instead of sending more military
and/or speculating, opportunism and hedging energy trades in war times- should be at the Heart
and Center of our Collective Wisdom)
The Ukraine War has done a lot of damage. The Blow-up of Nordstream-2 (allegedly done by
Ukraine Military Forces) has been a grave sin against Peace.
Sanctions and weaponizing of Energy Land, as it is and has been occurring over the War in
Ukraine, is the least what people, professionals and leadership needed- in order to build a
sustainable energy-economy future, so many people are eager to see.
So it is urgent, And it is important to see Peace.
With Peace, People can come together, build bridges between divides, and start talking Energy
Available, Sustainable and Energy-Economies (in Transition) - Free of Concerns,.
So- it is therefore , that my first step, and suggestion to you- is to see and seek Peace.
In all that we do, in Energy Land

3. 2. Energy Transition- The Great Electrification
My second step, is also simple- but requires some true courage, understanding and can-do- in
re-organizing, re-wiring, re-structuring and re-inventing the market, sector and present behaviors
of Government and Corporate Leadership, in Energy Land.
UN SG Guterres saw right: it is not about the emissions of Oil and Gas, it is about the Volumes
of Oil and Gas ( and Petrochemicals) - into our societies. Now and for future generations.
SO, if we speak about Energy Transition, we are to speak about the Great Electrification: to
move (some) away from the Oil and Gas intensities and industries, and towards more durable,
sustainable and reliable renewable power infrastructures.
It is that simple.
Let me give you one example:
Now- over the last decade, their has been a lot of rumble and turbulence from the incumbent, if
the EV-car could replace petrol-fueled cars.
First the incumbent industry pledged that the battery would not be so strong, and would only
have a radius of 60 km. Well, as I type these notes: present manufacturing and engineering
abilities stand at designing and producing batteries with a 1000- km range,
That easy.
Then, the dialogues and conversations started on: we do not have the mines or mining
materials available.
(and I guess Mining Company BHP - in Australia- and the International Copper Alliance - also
knows what it is doing- and understands how the better horses are running today:-)

That is and was where the invitation was.
All the time: To convert and transit from petrol fueled cars to electrified cars.
To step-up in investments- in the whole value chains, and to make room for the new.

Now- thanks to China Stategrid, BYD , Envision and Nio ( to name a few), and thanks to Elon
Musk Tesla , Master Plan 3 and Peter Carlsson of Northvolt, and Mining Companies such as
BHP (see above and below)- : they haven give us a rather more healthtier and better roadmap
and frame (see below)- for our steps ahead.
Finally, and to understand the new ways of going about, it was Mrs von der Leyen who went on
a tour to secure the new earth materials for the European Power/ Energy Transition Industry -
from Latin- America last week.
To my mind, she forgot to take with her, one most important element:
Today we have a choice: are we going for Energy Security (for Ourselves) around, or are we
going for Energy Available (to You and Me) around.
If Mrs Von Der Leyen would have invited Peter Carlsson, China StateGrid, China Envision, Elon
Musk, Nio, etc. etc. - with her on her tour, and she would have framed a Latin-America- Europe
Electrification Dream - not against, but including China, Russia, US- and into a collective Global
South - Global North Great Electrification Dream, she would have " cracked-it" , and I would
have been the first to cry tears over this step-up in new understandings.

5. This would help, also immediately, with the worry and scares about mineral reserves and
environmental damages.
For the invitation for making Good, is the invitation to better Organize - across the Blocks- and
to create not only for the self, but in community and care, and across the divides..
How wonderful if we were to create a " Great Electrification (Belt& Road or) Mission" , shared
between the Americans, Europeans, Russians, Chinese and Developing World.- all around.
That is where the good fruit and real joy is.
(and the rest, and all the dialogues (in industry and COPs) on emissions- is really - a lot of
noise and rumble (e.g 4Cs, ETS, CCS, Hydrogen, NBS, but, are to my mind and experiences,
hardly of any use- ( or niche, consultants- accountants , rich-men dreams) -and often also a
distraction, for what is real, urgent and important) :
Think, Frame with Focus and work for the real (system) change, not a derivative!

The agreement we just signed on Critical Raw Materials is great news.
It promotes sustainable mining and aims to make the Argentinian raw materials
industry thrive, along the whole value chain.

8. 3. Slow-down and De-Growth: Intense (Petro-) Economies and Industries: Its about the
Volumes, Stupid, and the ways we market and fuel our economies!
You only have to lay your eyes and ears to some academics and professionals from the
environmental movement, and you instantly know: with our present lifestyles and intense
economies - we are slowly and ever more rapidly killing our natural world.
Big, Bigger, Biggest., Fast, Faster, Fastest. More, most, most.
To give you some examples:
A part of the oil being produced, is consumed in Shipping and in order to ship and transport Oil,
Gas and Oil Products around- in trade and speculation.
The amounts and sorts of plastic we give in human hands, in packaging, is way beyond what is
responsible or in control.
Our super-markets are loaded with food and products, that are hardly healthy, nutritious , at
best, and are often directly harmful to nature, ourselves or the environment.
Petrochemical and Chemical industries produce in volumes and quantities- into cities, farmland
and economies- what People and Nature cannot carry: we are getting sick and ill.
If you would pass-by one of the NW European Harbors (say Rotterdam)- and you would have "
your sustainable glasses on" - and you would look into every ship and container being " traded"
into the international waters: you would become silent, and know:
What are and have we been doing?
How odd that government and business leaders, in their offices- speak about Sustainability,
Sustainable Development or Sustainable Shipping, when they only look at the heavy crudes
being burned to fuel the fleet, but they stop short of looking at what " chemistry and stuff" - they
are actually shipping around, as payload, in these giant vessels.,
So- it is about the volumes and the ways , that we have to look and cure.

9. It is about the Volumes (And the Emissions), Stupid!
( and it is about our energy-economies architectures)
Best if we know-how to de-intensify parts of our (industrial) economies and trade, and know to
wind-down and build-back a more friendly and less harmful (sustainable) economies ( and
trade), for our own well-being, nature and next generations to come. Here and There, Now and

10. 4. Government and Business Leadership Focus on Well-Being, Lifestyle and
Relationships with Nature
During the Covid pandemic- I wrote a little Essay and a pamphlet with as Title: 99 Theses to
Build Back Better.
I believe - both these little works, are still relevant and valid - for our todays steps, and going
forwards.
I invite you to read:

Add to this- the recent discussions and dialogues (in Paris, Macron Summit 22nd- 23rd June) on
a New Global Financial Compact- (North-South, East- West dialogue) - and you know what and
where to change.
5. Leadership: " Walk in more Beauty"
The term " Walk in (more) Beauty" originates from the Indian Tribes, and carries as meaning:
" To walk (work, live) in harmony with all things ( People, Animals, Nature- Tree of Life) . This
includes how we walk, feel physically and emotionally, and in exploring your own Life and
situation. "
In modern day Government and Corporate Organizations- I would translate this to:
It is about (knowing) the difference between the Tree of Knowledge vs. the Tree of Life.
And to apply and act upon this " in Wisdom from the Heart" ( Pope Francis Encyclicals Laudato
Si, Fratelli Tutti) - in all that we do,.
