EffizienzCluster Management GmbH (ECM) manages large industry driven
innovation projects in the context of digitizing industry. Currently we take care of
knowledge transfer, innovation management and the creation of communities on
various initiatives.
We operate the head offices of the International Data Spaces Association, the
EffizienzCluster LogistikRuhr, and the SME Enabling Center for Digitization “Digital
in NRW” (Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum Dortmund).
We managed the innovation platform of the initiative Innovative Logistics for
Sustainable Lifestyles (ILoNa) and are responsible for internal and external
communication and stakeholder engagement activities of the German National
Competence Center for Logistics and IT (Leistungszentrum Logistik und IT) and the
Digital Hub Dortmund initiative.

Maria Beck holds a Master in Logistics Engineering from Technical University of Dortmund, Germany.
Since 2016 Maria works as Head of Qualification and Knowledge Transfer at EffizienzCluster Management GmbH.
From 2013 – 2016 she was Co-Founder and Member of the Executive Board of GlobalGate GmbH, a corporate
learning and development service provider. From 2006 – 2013 she worked as a research fellow at the chair of
Materials Handling and Warehousing of Prof. Michael ten Hompel at the Technical University of Dortmund.
Maria focuses her work on guiding organizations to drive innovation and digitization. In addition, her focus lies on
developing qualification especially blended learning programmes for companies and institutions in logistics and
engineering topics as a tool to drive innovations.

From 2005-2006 Lars worked as Research Fellow at Technical University of Dortmund, from 2006-2013 he was Head
of Strategic Development of Fraunhofer-Institute for Material Flow and Logistics IML. From 2013-2016 Lars worked
as CEO and Co-Founder of GlobalGate GmbH, a corporate learning and development service provider.

Thorsten holds a Master in Economic Geography, Organisation Studies and Communication Sciences from University of Bonn and Bologna.
From 2000 - 2003 Thorsten worked as Research Fellow at the Universities of Bonn and Bristol within a research project on regional
innovation development. From 2003 - 2010 he worked as Project Manager and Deputy Head of Unit at the Economic Development Agency
Dortmund and was responsible for acquisition campaigns in ICT, MEMS and logistics industries in South-Korea, Singapore and Turkey.
In 2010 he was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of EffizienzCluster Management GmbH. In 2016 he was additionally appointed as Head
of Unit Strategic Initiatives at Fraunhofer IML and as CFO of International Data Spaces Association.
Thorsten focuses his work on the management and coordination of innovation networks, initiatives and clusters. He uses stakeholder
engagement and qualitative research methods as well as strategic foresight tools.
