Energy Saving Market Research. Quantitative analysis on energy consumption, clean energy generation and an effort to effectively implement clean energy policy
SBC on energy efficiency for SMEs Dec 2015Barbara Albert
This presentation helps small and medium sized business become a more profitable business by helping them increase their energy efficiency.
SMEs are struggling with the ever rising energy costs that are adding to the overhead. It is also hard to get a proper handle on analysing bills and managing energy in a small to medium sized organisation as there is no money for a dedicated person to manage this area. And increasingly customers expect businesses to do the right thing and to be more sustainable. At the intersection of these three forces is the fear that competitors might do a better job.
This presentation helps SMEs think about ways on how they can manage their energy consumption so they spend less on utilities. This increases the bottom line and as a side effect, the business also understands and controls their energy consumption. If the success stories are shared well, customers will think positively about the company, which will further increase profits. Businesses will feel so much more confident about doing their bit and will have a more profitable business by following the steps that are outlined in this presentation.

Change in Customer Behavior Based on the Customer ExperienceKinesis CEM, LLC
Every time a company and a customer interact, the customer learns something about the company, and adjusts their behavior based on what they learn.
To explore this proposition, Kinesis conducted a survey of 500 consumers asking them to recall an experience with any provider that they found to be particularly positive or negative, and determined how these customer experiences influenced customer behavior.
Consumers are no longer what they used to be. Before they buy, they look around. A lot. And when they buy, they talk about it. To everybody. They want to be treated as unique. They want you to listen to them. They want you to talk to them. They want you to thank them. In short, they are influencers and mini-tyrants who will leave you in the blink of an eye if you don’t do as they please. And that’s the easy part. The problem is that they change so fast that you actually need to know what they want, before they do. Your organization needs to outrun them. It needs to be agile and fast.
Understanding and predicting behavior for each individual customer has always been the ultimate dream for all digital companies. Combining machine learning and big data processing has finally made that dream a reality. In this webcast, you'll learn about the behavior based algorithms Insights uses to predict customer behavior.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of technologies, XML continues to play a vital role in structuring, storing, and transporting data across diverse systems. The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

2. • Savings in electricity costs are the main motive to change
consumption
• Pilots/programs with time variable tariffs (RTP, CPP, PTR, TOU) or
power based pricing have led to changes in electricity consumption
• But will consumers choose these tariffs?
• Risk aversion, with RTP savings cannot be guaranteed
• Opt out approach typically leads to higher enrollment rates
• Will politicians allow opt out/mandatory DR tariffs?
• Are the expected savings too high?
• E.g. SYKE: 153€/year for choosing RTP over a fixed price contract
Motivating households to flexibility
3. • Lower emissions from power generation
• Environmental attitudes often weak predictor of environmentally
sustainable behavior
• Better predictor when behavior is made easy
• Utilizing own generation
• Access to new technologies
• Multiple motives may lead to stronger response
• E.g. tariff + environmental attitude
Other incentives
4. • Shifting use of dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer
• Limitations: noise, no willingness to run appliances when residents
are not home
• Cooking and entertainment are usually considered unshiftable
activities
• In some cases, reduction with no shifting of consumption
What do consumers do in response to
price signals?
5. • Has explained large part of the response in previous pricing pilots
• Acceptance of control
• Relatively high for appliances not directly linked to household
routines (heating and air conditioning)
• Lower for other appliances (or at least higher savings required)
• Concerns
• Can unauthorized parties access the control system?
• How do I know retailer does not control consumption to high price
periods?
• Does the control system always function as agreed?
• Will the system adapt to changes in my own needs?
• Could help make environmental behavior easy
Control of consumer appliances
