In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.

13. Our Activities So Far
Production of EEDA Brochure:- First of its kind in Ekiti
State.
Ekiti – ODUA Business Enterprise Centre. (Old Textile):- A
business hub that will accommodate; Skill acquisition
centre, Builders mart, Industrial park Artisan village
Dangote Cement Depot:- The facility at Iworoko road can
accommodate 250 trailers of cement. The warehouse and
the office complex are completed for commissioning by HE
during his 1 year in office.
Agric Enterprise / NDE (229 youths):- 229 Youths have
been trained for 4 months in Agric Enterprise such as
Piggery, Snairy, Horticulture, poultry, Goat and Sheep
rearing, Honey bee making etc. This batch will graduate 2nd
week in October during Mr Governor’s 1 year in office.
14. EEDA Activities Cont´d
Training of Okada Riders to go back to their vocations:-
This was successful, 100 people were trained and about 20
have gone back to their vocations.
A nite with Mr Governor & Captains of Industry:- This was
the first of its kind in Nigeria, bringing Captains of
Industry under one roof. No Governor in Nigeria has ever
done this. Hitherto, about 6 corporate bodies
(manufacturing) have indicated their Investment interest
in Ekiti State; 3 of them had actually visited Ekiti State after
the programme.
Succession planning:- Successful completion of succession
planning Seminar for business owners in Ekiti State.

Development council):- Efforts are in top gear.

be trained by Prototype Engineering.
SMEs empowerment (14 were given N20million, 71 are
currently being processed).
