3. What are NBFCs?
❏ Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) are private financial institutes that
offer banking services such as loans and credit facilities. They, however, do not have
a banking licence
❏ In addition to providing loans and credit facilities, they also offer services such as
currency exchange, money markets, merger activities, underwriting, and retirement
planning.
❏ Since NBFCs are private institutions, they have fewer regulations and have more
flexibility with their customers.

9. Advantages of Borrowing from
NBFCs
❏ The greatest advantage of borrowing from an NBFC is that it encompasses a wider
range of education institutions and courses worldwide, as opposed to banks that
limit their loan offers based on course and destination.
❏ Having fewer regulations than a bank, the lending process of an NBFC is much
more flexible. They are often much quicker to approve & disburse loans.
❏ Usually, NBFCs do not put a cap on the maximum amount an applicant can
borrow. They provide education loans based on the specifications of the course &
collateral value to suit the needs of the borrower. On the other hand, banks have an
upper limit on the amount that they can give a student.
10. Disadvantages of Borrowing
from NBFCs
❏ The interest rates of NBFCs are likely to be significantly higher than banks because
they raise their funds by borrowing to lend to the customer.
❏ NBFCs impose a penalty for pre-loan closure.
❏ There is no interest subsidy provided by the NBFCs.
