Editor's Notes

  1. -WWW gives you the ability to access all types of information from library resources all over the world, including magazines, books, newspapers and journal publications, instantaneously.   -This information increases the learning potential by providing students with the update information.   - Students using search engines can find information quicker and more tailored to their specific needs. -Using the WWW for educational activities provides different avenues for discovery and curiosity through questioning and answering, and for critical evaluation of information. -WWW can be used to add value to the instructional methods, manage teachers' classroom, or improve lesson plans.
  2. -The ESL/EFL websites provide students with the tools they need to discover their own knowledge related to second language learning. They give students the hooks and templates they need to fasten information to the long-term memory. -The ESL websites provide teachers with authentic and instructional materials as the basis for the course.   -Teachers can find relevant materials that meet the needs of students. -Teachers can develop their teaching expertise by sharing the information with their peers. -The ESL websites provide the novice teachers with practical skills and knowledge needed to prepare them for their initial teaching experience (Richards, 2015).
  3. -Dave Sperling is an instructor in the intensive ESL program at California State University.   -According to Dennis Olivar (1996), Dave Sperling was disappointed by the majority of ESL/EFL websites because of their lack of interactivity between students and teachers. Therefore, Sperling decided to create a website where educators and students can hang out, learn, and share information.   -Dave's ESL Cafe shows a respectable and frequent access comparing with other ESL/EFL websites. According to statistical information from Pacific net, the site had well over 50,000 "hits" from November 1 through November 26, 1996 (as cited in Olivar, 1996).
  4. -Dennis Olivar (1996), in his review, stated that the continuing success of Dave's ESL Cafe on the Web is attributed to its user-friendliness, its steady updating and addition of new components, its inclusion of high-interest areas for both students and teachers, as well as its emphasis on participatory elements. -The site is available to the widest audience--not just to those who have the most powerful computers
  5. -The 17 categories include: Grammar, E-mail, Listening, Pronunciation, Home Pages, News, Vocabulary, Magazines, Games, Dictionaries, Poetry, Schools, Music, Links, Fun, Products, and Searches. -Most categories have around 10 links, though some--e.g., Pronunciation (2 links)--have notably fewer and others--e.g., Homepages (53) and Schools (73)--have many more. The number of links currently listed is 310; visitors may submit others (Olivar, 1996).
  6. -ESL link page for teachers currently contains 330 teacher-oriented links in 19 categories: Journals, Magazines, Articles, Associations, Linguistics, Home Pages, Phonetics, Schools, CALL, Jobs, Publishers, Projects, Links, Resources, Bookstores, Search, Lists, Newsgroups, Products. -The largest collections are Home Pages (58 links), Schools (63), Jobs (28), Publishers (17), and Resources (45)(Olivar, 1996).
  7. -Chat central incorporates chat with ESL teachers and their students and chat with students only. -Podcast includes video lessons, pictures, interviews with Dave, and photo gallery. -ESL links include about 3016 links for you to choose from. For example, articles involve 19 links, dictionaries involve 22 links, grammar 62 links, literature 22, writing 74 and hence forth.
  8. -ESL Job centre offers visitors the chance to ask questions about employment in specific locations and/or to post responses to the same -It is used by schools to list anticipated job openings. -It is used by job seekers to post questions about ESL employment in general or about positions in specific locations and/or institutions. -It includes job links with its categories. -You can post your resume and online background summary via this component.
  9. -ESL Partyland’s mission is to provide students with the content and tools necessary to learn online, to provide teachers with class materials, and to allow for students and teachers to easily communicate together. Through its mission, ESL Portyland can create a more rich and engaging learning environment.
  10. -Learning English as a second language for school, for work, or for personal interest is an exciting, challenging journey. Students can choose from many methods to learn English as a second language: traditional ESL classes, DVD and CD courses, instructional textbooks, private tutoring, and online courses. -For teachers, ESL PartyLand offers materials and teaching ideas for every type of classroom and learner. -Teachers Learn how to teach ESL through music, film, video, and the Internet and find materials and lesson plans to use when teaching conversation, grammar, listening, and speaking skills. -The “Lesson Plan” section provides lesson plans and activities to use when teaching communicative skills and includes individual pages for teaching conversation, teaching grammar, teaching listening and speaking, teaching reading, writing and vocabulary, and teaching integrated skills (ESL Partyland, 2015).
  11. -Everything ESL is is an awesome place to find ESL teaching resources, from lesson plans to teaching tips and resources for different proficiency levels. -Professor Jack Richards has  Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from Laval University (a French-Language University) in Quebec City, Canada in 1972. He works oversees as a specialist in applied linguistics. He published 150 articles in the field of second language acquisition and teaching. Among his well known professional books are Error Analysis, (1974),Reflective Teaching in Second Language Classrooms (1996, with Charles Lockhart), Beyond Training (1998).
  12. -Using English.com has an incredible collection of tools and resources for learning and teaching English as a second language, including a grammar glossary, printables, and teacher handouts. -Colorin Colorado is full of useful information, activities, and resources for ELL teachers, especially those at the Pre-K to third grade level. However, most activities can be adapted all the way up to high school, making this a diverse and useful website. -The preschool English language learners is a resource list from the state of Illinois. It has a variety of support resources for supporting preschool English language educators, with scholarships, journals, books, and more. -In the What Works Clearinghouse, you’ll find scholarly publications for effective outcomes in English language learning.
