The document discusses three waves of innovation:
1) The Industrial Revolution which increased productivity through mechanization.
2) The Internet Revolution which further increased productivity through computing and communication technologies.
3) The emerging Third Wave called the Industrial Internet, which connects intelligent machines via sensors and analytics, combining the advances of the prior two revolutions. This convergence holds potential for significant productivity gains across industries through improved efficiency.

This document summarizes a research project analyzing health news coverage in Portuguese newspapers from 2008-2010. The analysis found that coverage focused on political themes, risks/alarms, and cancer. Sources were predominantly male officials and researchers. Coverage lacked identification of place and information. While cancer research was highlighted positively, there were errors, ambiguous titles, and incomplete identification of sources. Overall, the analysis revealed gaps in coverage of women, patients, and ordinary citizens' perspectives.

This document discusses the benefits of distributing W-2s, 1099s, and paystubs electronically rather than using paper. It notes that the average cost per paper document is $1.90 and the average number of times a document is touched before reaching an employee is 9. Transitioning to electronic distribution reduces costs, saves time, and provides employees with convenient online access. The document presents a case study of a company that saved $4,500 per month by switching from ADP to DocAgent for electronic payroll document distribution for its 32,000 employees across 439 locations. It demonstrates DocAgent's online paystub and W-2 features and provides best practices for organizations adopting electronic distribution.
This document discusses principles of quality control for registered medicines, non-registered medicines, and counterfeits. It provides background on the EDQM and regulatory frameworks for quality control of registered medicines. For non-registered medicines, it notes the lack of standardized testing methods and importance of developing recognized standards given their traditional origins and limited data. The document also defines counterfeited medicines as illegal and discusses basic areas targeted, including blockbuster and expensive drugs, as well as how, when, and where counterfeiting occurs. It emphasizes the importance of representative sampling and specialized expertise in quality control testing.

The document discusses several key concepts in managerial economics including the goals of firms, production functions, breakeven points, the law of diminishing returns, the law of supply, and cost functions. Specifically, the major goals of firms are profit maximization, cost minimization, increasing market share and productivity. Production functions relate physical output to inputs using a mathematical formula. The breakeven point is where total revenue equals total cost. The law of diminishing returns states that output per unit decreases as one input is increased while others stay constant. The law of supply establishes the direct relationship between price and quantity supplied. Cost functions predict expenses associated with production levels given input prices.

This document provides guidance for designing an in-service training for nurses. It recommends creating an organized plan that identifies the target population and ensures the in-service content flows logically. Data and evidence should be used to develop the in-service. Both behavioral and cognitive learning theories are discussed. A needs assessment survey using a 5-point Likert scale is recommended to evaluate the needs of nurses of varying ages and experience levels. Both traditional and non-traditional instructional methods like case studies, lectures, and technology are outlined. Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences is also referenced to accommodate different learning styles.
1) Never pursue success directly, but rather seek continual excellence and improvement. Success will naturally follow as a byproduct.
2) Live each moment to the fullest as if it is your last, and be passionate in your work so that excellence comes naturally.
3) Learning is a lifelong process and teachers as well as learners can both fail and succeed. Keep learning through humility.
This document discusses a study examining the interaction between class size, formative feedback, and student achievement. The study found that smaller class sizes allowed teachers to provide more frequent formative feedback to students. It also found that for students who received frequent formative feedback, lower achieving students in 4th grade showed greater improvement in achievement by 6th grade compared to lower achieving students who received less frequent feedback. The results suggest that smaller class sizes enabling more formative feedback can help improve achievement growth for lower performing students over time.
