Continuity editing aims to make cuts seem natural and seamless, while montage uses disconnected shots that audiences understand as conveying information. Transitions like cross cutting, dissolves, and wipes are used between shots, with dissolves providing a gradual blend and wipes noticeably passing across the screen in dynamic ways, often in action or adventure films.
