Understanding Non Blocking I/O with Python

As an engineer working on any web stack, you may have heard about Blocking and Non-Blocking IO. You may as well have used any framework or library that supports Non-Blocking IO. After all, they are very useful as you don’t want to block execution of other tasks while one task is waiting to complete a network call to another service (like HTTP call to an API or may be a TCP call to your database). Non-Blocking IO while doing tasks and not wait for IO. This also helps us handle a lot many connections than we possibly could with Blocking IO. Python supports Non-Blocking IO, but we always use some existing 3rd party library that hides all the gory details and makes it all look like black magic to the uninitiated. But there is nothing like black magic.
This presentation will be an introductory talk focused at explaining how Non-Blocking IO works, which is the basis of libraries like Gevent, Tornado and Twisted. We will learn about how Non-Blocking IO can be implemented using the most basic modules that form the base for the above mentioned libraries. Hopefully after this talk, Non-Blocking IO will not be an unsolved mystery for you anymore.

I will build from scratch in this session a Microsoft ASP.NET website that caches WebAPI REST calls with both MSOpenTech’s Redis implementation for running while developing in Visual Studio as well as running on a Windows server running IIS. I will show you how to build a safe reusable caching library in c# that can be used in any .net project. I will also demonstrate how to use the Redis cache services that are available on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform. Further, I’ll demonstrate a real world web site that uses Azure Redis cache and show statistics on how Redis improves performance consistently and reliably.

Run Containerized Database SQL Server 2017 Linux
The talk was presented at the Singapore Data Day 2018 event. The talk demonstrated the ease with which SQL Server 2017 running on Linux can be containerised. The demo application will showed a basic Web API interfacing with SQL Server 2017 running inside docker containers. The fully integrated API along with containerized database was deployed to managed Kubernetes cluster running on Azure using Azure Container Service (AKS). Persistent data management was handled using Azure Disk attached to Kubernetes cluster using the StatefulSets feature.

In my talk I will discuss and show examples of using Apache Hadoop, Apache Hive, Apache MXNet, Apache OpenNLP, Apache NiFi and Apache Spark for deep learning applications. This is the follow up to last years Apache Deep Learning 101 that was done at Dataworks Summit and ApacheCon.
As part of my talk I will walk through using Apache NXNet Pre-Built Models, MXNet's New Model Server with Apache NiFi, executing MXNet with Apache NiFi and running Apache MXNet on edge nodes utilizing Python and Apache MiniFi.
This talk is geared towards Data Engineers interested in the basics of Deep Learning with open source Apache tools in a Big Data environment. I will walk through source code examples available in github and run the code live on an Apache Hadoop / YARN / Apache Spark cluster.
This will be an introduction to executing Deep Learning Pipelines in an Apache Big Data environment.

Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
