Node TestBox Runners
Grunt Watchers and Browser Live Reloads
Come learn about Vagrant - a tool to create and configure lightweight, reproducible, and portable development environments plus provisioning options to automate the environment configuration. Vagrant lowers development environment setup time, increases development/production parity, and makes the "works on my machine" excuse a relic of the past.
In a rare mash-up, DevOps is increasingly blending the work of both application and network security professionals. In a quest to move faster, organizations can end up creating security vulnerabilities using the tools and products meant to protect them. Both Chris Gates (carnal0wnage) and Ken Johnson (cktricky) will share their collaborative research into the technology driving DevOps as well as share their stories of what happens when these tools are used insecurely as well as when the tools are just insecure.
Technologies discussed will encompass AWS Technology, Chef, Puppet, Hudson/Jenkins, Vagrant, Kickstart and much, much more. Everything from common misconfigurations to remote code execution will be presented. This is research to bring awareness to those responsible for securing a DevOps environment.
Commonly in startups, you probably don't be worry about how your application artefacts are managed to be deployed in a server: compressed files or JAR/WAR files combined with a set of scripts. However, for larger companies that uses not only one or two servers, but a entire pool of machines, it requires some control and organisation to deploy apps. You can handle this case with some automation / configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, Chef, of course. But using a set of scripts can be hard to maintain all deployment steps, from artefact update to rollback.
If you distribute your software using a Operational System package manager like YUM (CentOS) or APT (Debian, Ubuntu), your deployment will be easier because these tools handles software changes in a good way. It sounds good, but package binaries is a pain for developers or newer sysadmins that don't have knowledge about how YUM/APT works. It requires creation of one or a lot of configuration files to be updated and when you have multiple artefacts probably packaging them will be a nightmare.
Here enter fpm-cookery, a Ruby gem responsible to package artefacts based on recipes, much easy to use. It will be your swiss knife for anything that you need to package, from common binaries not distributed in RPM/DEB formats to programming languages from source, compiling when needed.
Introduction to Continuous integration and the differences with continuous delivery and deployment. It shows the main benefits you should expect by incorporating CI practices to your project and how to do it with Drone.

An Introduction to the Gradle by Mr. Aruna Swain - Senior Software Developer at Nibodha Technologies : Gradle is build automation which can automate the building, testing, publishing, deployment. Ant and Maven have occupied opposing positions on the build continuum over the past decade.Ant and Maven have shared considerable success in the Java marketplace, despite important shortcomings in both tools. On the one hand, Gradle presents itself as a sensible middle ground between both extremes, offering thoughtful conventions for your build, and making it easy for you to extend or redefine those conventions when you want to. - See more at: http://www.nibodha.com/blog/?p=328#sthash.woOHgiJd.dpuf

Netflix has open sourced many of our Gradle plugins under the name Nebula. These plugins are there to lend our expertise and experience to building responsible projects, internally and externally. This talk will cover some of the ones we've published, why we want to share these with the community, how we tested and published them, and most importantly how you can contribute back to them.
Nebula started off as a set of strong opinions to make Gradle simple to use for our developers. But we quickly learned that we could use the same assumptions on our open source projects and on other Gradle plugins to make them easy to build, test and deploy. By standardizing plugin development, we've lowered the barrier to generating them, allowing us to keep our build modular and composable.
The web has evolved, and now it’s time our themes do the same. Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
