2. Coir board
Coir board was set up in 1953 by the Commerce Ministry
of Government of India under Coir Board Industries Act,
1953 for development of coir industries
The board has set up the Coir Board Research Institute at
Kerala for conducting research on different aspects of
coir industry.
The Coir Board has worked actively to support
the International Year of Natural Fibres 2009.
3. Objectives
Coir Board social objective is to improve the living conditions of those
engaged in this industry, especially the workers and manufacturers.
Coir Board economic objective is to help for generation of additional
employment opportunities, production of quality products
acceptable to the export & domestic markets and facilitate
reasonable returns to producers and exporters.
The Coir Board is playing vital role for the development of coir sector
through various initiatives.

The overall development of the Coir industry through
Research, development and extension
Modernization and quality up gradation of the product
Improving marketing facilities

Improvement in the quality of life of all who are
engaged in the coir industry.
5. Functions of the board
To Promote by such measures as it thinks fit the development,
under the control of the Central Government, of the Coir
Industry.
Promoting exports of coir yarn and coir products and carrying
on propaganda for the same purpose
Regulating under the supervision of the Central Government
the production of husks, coir yarn and coir products .
Fixing grade standards and Regular inspection of coir fibre,
coir yarn and coir products.
6. Collecting statistics from manufacturers, dealers on any
matter relating to the coir industry & publish the
collected statistics
Improving the marketing of coconut husk, coir fibre,
coir yarn and coir products in India
Preventing unfair competition
Promoting cooperative organisation among producers.

7. Market Development Assistance Scheme
To promote the sale of coir and coir products manufactured
by the Co- operatives and Public Sector Enterprises
committed to payment of minimum wages and other benefits
to the coir workers and thereby encouraging sustained
production and better employment opportunities.
To provide financial support on a continuing basis rounded
the year to the Cooperatives and Public Sector Enterprises
who undertake market development programme in Coir.

9. Central Silk board
Silk Board was set up in 1949 by the Government
of India under the Central Silk Board Act.
The main activities of the Board include
development of Silk industry, export-import of
raw silk, increasing the production of silk and to
help in training and research for silk industry.

Improved methods of mulberry cultivation, silkworm rearing
,developing and distribution of healthy silkworm seeds,
improved methods of silk reeling and spinning of the cocoons
and silk-waste.

Improving the marketing of raw silk.
The collection of statistics .
To advise the Central Government on all matters
relating to the development of silk industry including
import and export of raw silk.
To prepare and furnish such other reports relating to the
silk industry as may be required by the Central
Government from time to time.
Improving the quality and production of raw silk.
13. Market Support:
In order to ensure economic and fair price to the primary
cocoon growers, the Central Silk Board has established a
Tasar Raw Material Bank (TRMB) at Jharkhand along with 4
Sub-Depots at Raigarh (Chhattisgarh), Bhagalpur (Bihar),
Warrangal (AP) and Bhandara (Maharashtra).
Similarly for Muga cocoons, a Muga Raw Material Bank
(MRMB) was established at Assam, with 3 Sub-Depots at
Dhakuakhana, Sualkuchi (Assam) and at West Bengal.
