Ebola virus disease is a disease that affects humans and other primates like monkeys, gorillas and chimpanzees. It was first discovered near the Ebola River in the Congo and symptoms include fever, muscle pain, sore throat and headaches that start 2-21 days after contracting the virus. The disease has a high fatality rate and is transmitted through direct contact with bodily fluids or contaminated materials. While there is no vaccine currently available, treatment focuses on relieving symptoms for severe cases.
