The presentation demonstrated how to create a Mobile Service and its REST API.
Once upon a time… integration was all about ESB’s, EAI and B2B. Today, many companies wish to integrate beyond firewalls, and typically with SaaS. Hence the uprise of API based integration, using lightweight protocols. The evolution is a fact; so now what is the current state of the Azure Integration Platform?

Resources for learning more about Azure Mobile Services and migrating to the new Azure Mobile Apps are also listed.
Azure AD and Office 365 - Deja Vu All Over AgainSean Deuby
Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) is driving adoption of Office 365 and other Microsoft cloud services. As more organizations migrate workloads to Office 365, they are also adopting Azure AD to manage user authentication and access. Azure AD serves as the central identity platform for all Microsoft online services. It currently has over 10 million tenants and authenticates over 1.3 billion logins per day. Office 365 adoption is causing more organizations to connect their on-premises Active Directory to Azure AD using Azure AD Connect in order to synchronize user accounts and passwords. Azure multi-factor authentication (MFA) and Azure B2B capabilities are also growing in importance as organizations expand into cloud-based workloads and need to securely manage user access and
Zero Credential Development with Managed IdentitiesJoonas Westlin
Managed identities for Azure resources allow Azure services and resources to access other resources without requiring credentials to be configured in code or passed around. This improves security by removing secrets from code and automatically managing credentials. Key benefits include credentials being managed by Azure, automatic rotation of credentials, and easy revocation of access. The service is free and supports both system-assigned identities tied to a specific resource and user-assigned identities that can be used across multiple resources.
Zero Credential Development with Managed IdentitiesJoonas Westlin
Keys are always needed to access services in Azure and beyond. Storing and managing keys presents many problems, for example rotating and disabling them. Keys often also allow blanket access to the service with no way to limit it. Sometimes there is only one key that needs to be shared by services, so you won't have any way to disable access from one individually.
In this talk we will go through Managed Identities for Azure Resources, how they work, and how you can use them to use Azure services in a secure way without having to manage any keys yourself.
We will go through a demo application which uses various Azure services through a managed identity, removing the need to use keys entirely. The source code will be available to the audience so they have samples that they can use to implement managed identities in their own applications.
Global Azure Bootcamp 2017 - How to build a twitter bot in 15 minutesKarim Vaes
This document provides an overview of the Global Azure Bootcamp presented by Karim Vaes, a Cloud Solution Architect. It includes details about Karim, his background and online profiles. It then lists and briefly describes many of the platform and domain services available within the Azure cloud computing platform. The remainder of the document discusses how Azure Functions can be used to build solutions with triggers from events and perform tasks on a schedule. It provides examples of Functions that could clean data, process invoices, analyze emotions in tweets, and more. It also includes examples of Functions integrated with other Azure services like Logic Apps, Cognitive Services and APIs.
The document discusses integration solutions from Salesforce and MuleSoft. It promotes the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform as a complete integration platform that can connect any application, data, or device using API-led connectivity. It positions the platform as future-proof and able to empower organizations to innovate faster. Specific capabilities and use cases mentioned include building a complete customer view, modernizing legacy systems, creating omnichannel experiences, and connecting e-commerce.

Why Apache Kafka Clusters Are Like Galaxies (And Other Cosmic Kafka Quandarie...Paul Brebner
Closing talk for the Performance Engineering track at Community Over Code EU (Bratislava, Slovakia, June 5 2024) https://eu.communityovercode.org/sessions/2024/why-apache-kafka-clusters-are-like-galaxies-and-other-cosmic-kafka-quandaries-explored/ Instaclustr (now part of NetApp) manages 100s of Apache Kafka clusters of many different sizes, for a variety of use cases and customers. For the last 7 years I’ve been focused outwardly on exploring Kafka application development challenges, but recently I decided to look inward and see what I could discover about the performance, scalability and resource characteristics of the Kafka clusters themselves. Using a suite of Performance Engineering techniques, I will reveal some surprising discoveries about cosmic Kafka mysteries in our data centres, related to: cluster sizes and distribution (using Zipf’s Law), horizontal vs. vertical scalability, and predicting Kafka performance using metrics, modelling and regression techniques. These insights are relevant to Kafka developers and operators.

Measures in SQL (SIGMOD 2024, Santiago, Chile)Julian Hyde
SQL has attained widespread adoption, but Business Intelligence tools still use their own higher level languages based upon a multidimensional paradigm. Composable calculations are what is missing from SQL, and we propose a new kind of column, called a measure, that attaches a calculation to a table. Like regular tables, tables with measures are composable and closed when used in queries.
SQL-with-measures has the power, conciseness and reusability of multidimensional languages but retains SQL semantics. Measure invocations can be expanded in place to simple, clear SQL.
To define the evaluation semantics for measures, we introduce context-sensitive expressions (a way to evaluate multidimensional expressions that is consistent with existing SQL semantics), a concept called evaluation context, and several operations for setting and modifying the evaluation context.

Why this Slide:
It shows we have a very broad platform. It about BOTH IaaS and PaaS, that these work together. It shows that we continue to lead in world class IT capabilities and that there’s really nothing missing.
Key Points:
We have already seen how the Azure Platform is IaaS + Pass – but I want you to understand that this is a huge number of capabilities – IT building blocks if you will.
Every one of these blocks you provision anytime, self-service anywhere in the world 24x7. You pay for what you use, you can get more or less anytime and you can fully automate everything…
DON’T spent too much time on this slide – you are going to DEMO (aren’t you!!!)… DON’T go through each block…
Transition to NEXT Slide: Make the build go backwards to show JUST IaaS and then you will go to the demo to show it.
Easy Auth started as an App Service team hackathon project in 2014.
Server-directed flow
Client-directed login
Azure Mobile Apps is a full solution we offer for building iOS, Android, and Windows apps or cross-platform Xamarin or Cordova (PhoneGap)
We will focus on User Authentication
* Show all the different SDKs that are supported:
JavaScript login
Previously we looked at connecting to social identity provider services. We can also use Easy Auth to connect to SaaS applications, like Office 365 or Dynamics 365.
Azure Functions is built on top of the Azure App Service platform and can take advantage of Easy Auth capabilities.
Support for Windows (IIS), Linux (Containers), and local development (Functions CLI)
Emphasize that a large number of companies are trusting Azure App Service and Easy Auth with their authentication needs.
