This document presents the testing of a newly developed fluidized bed combustor (FBC) for reclaiming used foundry sand. The FBC was designed to reclaim up to 20kg of chemically bonded no-bake sand and tested using Taguchi methods. Testing examined parameters of temperature, sand holding time, and quantity of sand. Optimum parameters were identified as 500°C, 15 minutes, and 15kg of sand, achieving 18.66% weight reduction and a cycle time of 55 minutes. The reclaimed sand was found to have properties suitable for reuse in foundry applications.

STABILIZATION OF SOIL USING BIO-ENZYME

The present study provides an effective technique of ground improvement using bio-enzyme. In this study a bio-enzyme named terrazyme is used for improving the California bearing ratio (CBR) value in road construction. Terrazyme is a natural, non-toxic and liquid enzyme. It is made from fermentation of plants, vegetable extract and fruit extract. Terrazyme can be used as soil stabilizer and also it can improve the CBR value in road construction. The dosage of terrazyme are taken as 500ml/m3, 700ml/m3, 900ml/m3 and 1000ml/m3in the soil sample and result is analyzed. A significant increase is found in CBR value of the soil sample as the dosage of terrazyme has been increased.

IRJET - Improving Engineering Properties of Marine Clay using Tyre Chips

This study assessed the impact of adding waste tire chips to marine clay soil at different proportions. Laboratory tests were conducted on the clay soil without additives and with tire chip additives ranging from 0-10% by weight. The tests measured properties like consolidation, compaction, and California Bearing Ratio (CBR). The CBR increased from 1.18 for untreated clay to a maximum of 2.95 when 5% tire chips were added at the optimum moisture content of 18.5%. Overall, the results showed that the addition of tire chips can improve the engineering properties of marine clay soil by increasing its strength and bearing capacity.

The physical and chemical properties of the soils and ashes were determined. Mud blocks of size 240x240x100mm were prepared by compressing mixtures of soil, ashes, and cement. The blocks were cured for 21 days and then tested for compressive strength and water absorption. Test results found that compressive strength increased with higher percentages of different ashes. The study aimed to identify alternatives to coarse aggregates for mud concrete blocks and investigate their mechanical properties. Four types of blocks were produced with varying percentages of soil, quarry dust, granite fines, construction waste, coarse aggregates, and cement. Testing showed the blocks with 10% cement and 27% construction waste achieved the highest average compressive strength of 24.77 MPa. In this study, a study on volcanic soil materials was undertaken to better understand the application of volcanic soil in road construction industry. Volcanic soil were collected from RUVUMBA Quarry, MUSANZE District, Rwanda. The selected area contains soil volcanic with undiscovered material properties. With the aim of understanding the material properties of the collected soil samples, a wide range of tests including soil tests (Sieve analysis, Atterberg limit, Proctor test, and California bearing ratio), losangeles test and sieve analysis of volcanic aggregates were carried out. After handling and interpreting the results of the tested samples with respect to Sieve analysis, some of the soil samples were classified as poorly graded material with no plastic index identified by Atterberg limit. Three categories were identified as follow: Sample I and II were classified as quite good material in compaction while Sample III was identified as a poor material with low density and strength. The study also revealed that the CBR (California Bearing Ratio) in Sample III could be improved with the addition of only 1% of cement which can be used as a stabilizer. The experimental results showed that both dry density and strength of Sample III was significantly increased by the addition of 1% of cement at 95% of CBR. These findings demonstrated that volcanic soils with category quartzite can be good materials to serve as local materials in Rwanda for the implementation of road construction in some road layers especially in sub-base course and for base course while its was stabilized with cement.

Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process. In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds. - These are slides of the talk given at IEEE International Conference on Software Testing Verification and Validation Workshop, ICSTW 2022.

EarthZyme is a non-toxic soil stabilizer that is 100% biodegradable. Using EarthZyme has resulted in reduced maintenance of roads. This is a result of the high levels of compaction that we achieve when constructing roads and bearing layers with EarthZyme.
As mentioned before EarthZyme treated soil are very resistant to absorption of water. Lab testing for swell of soils involves submerging the compact soil molds in water for 96 hours. As you can see EarthZyme reduces the swell and permeability of clay based soils. This is very beneficial when considering longevity of construction projects and maintenance costs.
