ESF4Infra
Introduction
The African Catalyst's main focus is on Early-Stage Financing for Infrastructure in Africa.
We believe that the Early-Stage Financing stage has been the most critical and often
neglected with more opportunities for Infrastructure with fewer investors chasing these
deals in Africa.
Given that the Early-Stage Financing for Infrastructure attracts mainly project preparation facility managers
and very limited infrastructure funds, there is less competition for investments, which has led to more
attractive pricing for buyers of Early Stage infrastructure assets and, correspondingly, higher returns than in
the large-cap market.
In addition, early-stage infrastructure transactions tend to be highly based on relationships. We believe a
“direct investment approach” in which relationships grow through a series of ESF4Infra Forums is key to this
strategy.

Large Scale Energy Transition Projects
3-4 February 2023 / Lagos
The Nigerian government is committed to achieving Just Transition for Nigerians as it
launched the Energy Transition Plan (ETP) as one of the major approaches to achieving the
net-zero targets by 2060; tackling poverty by lifting over 100 million people out of poverty
through driving economic growth, connecting the population to modern energy services, and
managing the potential job loss in the oil sector because of global de-carbonisation; and
addressing climate change and building a more sustainable economy. It is estimated that
Nigeria requires $ 10 billion annually to implement the ETP by 2060 which amounts to a
massive $410 billion.
The inability to get much-needed Early Stage as well as the seemly gap in the quality of
bankability of deals would be critical in getting the additional $1.9 trillion is required to attain
the country’s net-zero targets.
