Characters:
● Ani: The earth goddess, new yam festival dedicated to
her
● Egwefi: Okonkwo’s second wife, gets beaten and shot
at
● Okonkwo: Not excited about the feast, tries to shoot
Egwefi
● Ezinma/Nma/Ezigbo: Egwefi’s only daughter, brought
Okonkwo food but he doesnt appreciate her as much
● The Cat: The man that Okonkwo beat in the wrestling
match many years ago that made him win over Egwefi
● Obiageli: Nwoye’s sister, broke the waterpot and cries
over it
Basic Events:
● New Yam Festival takes place, giving thanks to Ani
● Okonkwo beats his second wife for “killing” the banana
tree
● Okonkwo then tries to shoot his second wife for making
a comment about his gun but misses her
● Ekwefi enjoys the wrestling match because that is how
Okonkwo won her over many years ago
● Obiageli broke the cooking pot by swaying her hips and
not paying attention
● Ezinma brings Okonkwo food to his obi, okonkwo likes
Ezinma but does not show it very often.

Connections:
The celebration for a god, we have Christmas,
hanukkah, etc.
Obiageli lies to her mom to get in less trouble
about the waterpot, kids do that today

and kids bringing it to him and cleaning it
for him
● Having many wives

Chapter 6
Characters:
● Okonkwo- Watches the wrestling match and talks to
Ekwefi
● Chielo- Is the priestess of Agbala and Oracle of the
caves. Friends with Ekwefi to tell her that her
daughter will stay.
● Maduka- 16 years old and Son of Obierka. Won his
match by throwing his opponent
● Ekwefi- Mother of Ezinma.
● Okafo- Was the leader of his team and fought Ikezue
and threw him.
● Ikezue- Was the leader of his team and was thrown by
Okafo
Basic Events:
● Villagers gathered on the ilo and watched the first
round of wrestling matches between 15 and 16 years
olds.
● There were three; two ended in a draw and the third
ended in a throw by Maduka
● Okonkwo talked to Ekwefi about how her daughter was
going to stay
● Wrestling teams met and fought one by one. The last
match between the two leaders was a throw by Okafo
who threw Ikezue
