Okonkwo continues to feel guilt over killing Ikemefuna, refusing to eat for two days. His daughter brings him food to eat. He scolds himself for showing weakness. Okonkwo visits his friend Obierika to discuss his daughter's bride price and his wish that she was a boy. They are interrupted by news of deaths in another village. Later, the men settle on a bride price of 20 bags of cowries for Obierika's suitor and eat together.
