2. Day 1 Nov. 5, 1963 This is the hospital in Elmira, New York where I was born. I was then taken home to nearby Hawthorne Court, just under the hill where Mark Twain is buried.

3. My First House To the left of my first house is Mark Twain’s Grave Site

4. My Next House My next house is gone. It was where the building is in the bottom center of the photo. That block of houses is where my grandparents, great- grandparents, and great-great grandparents lived in the 19 th and 20 th century. Almost all of them are now buried in the same cemetery as Mark Twain.

5. My Next House The white building next to where my former house used to be was a store at the time in 1965. It is where I purchased my first pocket knife. My Next House

6. Moving On (my dad was in the navy) Next, we moved to Jacksonville ,Fl. I don’t remember much about this because we were there for a short time.

7. On to Virginia (1967) Virginia may be for lovers, but when you’re only 4 years old it does not matter. My mother thinks this is the complex we lived in for 2 years.

8. California Here We Come Again, my mom thinks this is where we lived in national City, California. We were here for about one year.

9. Over to Coronado, Ca. We lived somewhere in this photo in 1969 and 1970 before moving back to Elmira, New York. I was in first grade here. (sorry, can’t find the school)

10. Back to Elmira The top arrow is where I lived and the bottom arrow is where I finished first grade after moving back here in 1970.

11. Horseheads, New York This is the house my parents built in 1970. We lived there until 1977, long after their divorce in 1973.

12. Broadstreet Elementary This is the elementary school I attended for 2 nd , 3 rd , 4 th , 5 th , and 6 th grades. It is still a school, but not an elementary school.

13. A Few More Places Horseheads Junior High School (7 th grade) Pudgies Pizza in Hanover Square, a great hangout for teens

14. Then it was on to Florida We lived with my step father’s cousins in Sarasota for awhile. It was a house in the empty lot in the photo.

15. Finishing 7 th , 8 th and part of 9th grade Brookside Middle School in Sarasota. It was called a junior high school when I went there.

16. The Next House, an Apartment I lived here for one year. It was The Seasons apartment complex in Sarasota.

17. More Moves and Schools I lived in this Condo for awhile And finished 9 th grade here, at McIntosh Junior

18. Part of 10 th Grade The original Sarasota High School. Built in the 20’s, it is a wonderful old building that is now a resource center for Sarasota. I had English II in this building.

19. To the other side of Sarasota again I lived in both of these houses for a short while.

20. Stretching Out, so to speak Riverview High School in Sarasota. I finished 10 th grade here and began 11 th grade. I went from 5’9” tall at the end of 10 th to 6’4” tall at the beginning of 11 th .

21. My Last School, for awhile New Directions Alternative High School in Sarasota. My savior from life. We called teachers by first names and were allowed to smoke. Wow!

22. Back to an Apartment I moved back to an apartment but stayed at new Directions to finish high school.

23. Back to Fairway Oaks Condos I moved back here to be closer to my nieces and nephews. They are awesome kids who now range in age from negative 6 months to 26 years old.

24. Into a house, again I moved with my sister and her family into this house. My nephew went to Brookside Middle when we lived here.

25. Buying a new house We moved to this big house and fixed it up. We had a great time, especially the paver driveway. I started back to school while living here.

26. Manatee Community College I earned my A.A. here, at M.C.C., in Bradenton. I completed it in 1 ½ years from January 1996 – August 2007. I loved going back to school.

27. Moving to Tampa and U.S.F. I left my family and the kids in August 2007 to come to U.S.F. I was engaged at the time and planned on getting an apartment with my fiancé. But we broke up and my mom got sick with DCD. So life punted me in another direction.

28. A New Apartment I lived here for awhile and then moved to New Tampa

29. Treasure Island Life gave me another punt in 2004 when I nearly drowned while vacationing with my best friend, Nann, and my nephew, Josh. This is off of the Tahitian Resort

30. Life goes on… And now I am still at U.S.F. I teach Senior English at Wesley chapel high School, and I am buying a house. In the earth photo the house is a big pile of dirt, but alas,…

31. The New House … the 1820 sq. ft.house really is there and I close July 31 and start moving in. (This photo was not taken from Google Earth)

32. And Now For Beowulf One of the seven characteristics of an Epic Hero is that he or she takes a long journey. They travel far and wide. Beowulf traveled about 200 miles. This is a short distance compared to today.

33. Beowulf’s Journey The journey began just south of today’s Loderup, a village on the southern tip of the kingdom of Sweden.

34. The journey continues Beowulf then went to Hearot. The closest city to this fictional town is Rodvig, which is at the southern tip of Denmark.

35. The Map This shows how the journey Beowulf took to get to King Hrothgar and save his people from Grendel, Grendel’s Mom, and the Dragon.

36. How is Beowulf British Literature? After the Scops (ancient story tellers) were run out of Denmark they found new homes and the story made its way to England, where they adopted it as their own.
