Dublin is the capital city of Ireland located on the river Liffey in the east of the country. It has a population of over 1.1 million people and its name translates to "Black Lagoon" in Irish. The history of Dublin dates back to the 2nd century AD and includes invasions by Vikings in the 9th century. Today, Dublin is a multilingual city where Irish and English are spoken, and has many famous landmarks like Trinity College and Dublin Castle. Gaelic football and rugby are popular sports, and leprechauns are featured in Irish mythology.
