Convocation Overview
University Convocation is a listening and learning laboratory for First Year Students, one that allows First Year
Students to hear from peers, faculty and staff. This weekly activity (scheduled for Thursdays, from 11:00am –
11:50am) allows First Year Students an opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of activities and disciplines
and to hear professional speakers occasionally.
CFYE Student Learning Outcomes
Our SLO’s guide the work that we do. Along those lines, we wish to remind requestors that we are more likely
to select topics that complement the SLO’s.
1. Understand and articulate the value of a liberal arts education
2. Set personal and academic goals for the university experience
3. Understand what it means to think critically
4. Have a sense of belonging to and actively participate in the university learning community
5. Understand how to access university academic and student success support resources
6. Connect students to the campus and greater New Orleans community
