1.) Inzy Lets Things Flow Over Him
Mujtaba met Inzamam first time at his father’s shop. At the very first meeting, they became good friends.
Inzamam’s father was a spiritual leader while Mujtaba’s father was a barber. They both hangout together.
Night after night, after everyone had gone to sleep, Inzamam make the omelettes, Mujtaba make rotis. Early
morning, just wash-up and straight for the first namaaz.
Inzamam was quite young. He was practicing with his at the Multan Stadium when Imran Khan spotted him.
He admired the boy’s batting and invited him to Lahore, In 1992, Inzamam was selected for the world cup
team. He gave a wonderful performance against New Zeland in the match. He shared the credit for Pakistan
Teams winning World Cup1992.
After winning the world cup Inzamam was coming home. Multan came out to meet him in full strength at the
airport,’ says Mujtaba , I did’t go. He was a super star and I wasn’t sure if I would fit in with his new life
now. I didn’t want to impose. But Mujtaba, wanted the welcome arrangement of the hero to be perfect. As
Inzamam motorcade passed the shop of Mujtaba, Inzamam got off the car to meet him and took him along
with him. That showed that fame had not changed him at all.
2.) Haroun And The Sea of Stories
It was the saddest of cities in the country of Alifbay. It stood by a mournful sea which had plenty of glum fish,
not worth eating. The ruined building looked like broken hearts in the sad city.
Rashid Khalifa was a story maker. He was made famous throught the city by his story telling. His tales were
tall and short and winding, above all never ending. His admirers used to call him the Ocean of Notions.
Haroun, the only child of the storyteller Rahid Khalifa. Whenever Haroun asked his father about the sources
of his stories, instead of giving a proper reply, he would narrow his slightly bulging eyes and pat his wobbly
stomach and stick his thum between his lips.
The Senguptas lived upstairs. Mr Sengupta became interested in Soraya, Rashid’s wife. She was unhappy as
she felt neglected by her husband who had busy life. Her husband remained out. Mr. Sengupta criticized
Rashid for not talking life seriously. Thus, he persuaded her to run off with him.
At this stage when Haroun heard his father sounding so pathetic, he lost his temper and shouted: “ What’s the
point of it ? What’s the use of stories that are not even ture ?”
Rashid hid his face in his hand and wept. Haroun wanted to get those words back.
3.) Girls
The author of this story is a little girl named Milli , the middle daughter of Lali. She always compliant against
the elders is that they hold a girl inferior to a son. In our society, sons are preferred to daughters. Secondly
they scold and ill treat a girl child. Milli’s mother thinks all her daughters are a problem, a nuisance.
Milli is a naughty but intelligent girl. She is obstinate and she refuses to give in. So she often scolded and
smacked by her mother. She examines the elders critically and wished she were a bird or a magician to escape
form the world of human beings.

Her elder sister is very sensible, and loving. She knows that the elder sister alone in the family loves her truly.
She gives her sound advice not to question the grown ups.
She against the Puja on Ashtami day because she want to be treated like a human being, not as a goddess on
a certain day in the year. Society is prejudiced against women, treats them domestic help, as sex pots, as a
commodity. And all this is tolerated by men folk who adore women also as deities or symbol of power. Women
are worshipped as Durga or chandi who once killed the demons. Her cry is loud and clear, only the society is
deaf to that.
4.) Sisters
It draws the picture of two daughters. There is a gap of less than five yrs between their ages. The younger
sister is bolder, cleverer and sweeter than honey. She sheds crocodile tears. She cries and take u-turn easily.
Most of the times father scolds the elder one for the faults of the younger one. Elder one criticise the father
for taking wrong side. At this father shouted her down. Father realises that he unduly favours the younger one
and scolds the elder one. He also praises his elder daughter’s virtues.
5.) A Ten Day Fast
Bannu was interested in Radhika Babu’s wife, Savitri. He wished to grab her at any cost. Savitri had no liking
at all for Bannu who loved her madly. She even hated the man. The narrator advised him to take some extreme
step to get her. That step was to undertake indefinite fast. ”. So Bannu went on a fast unto death. Savitri got
angry when he sat of fast to get her. He made him confident that there was nothing wrong or laughable in it.
He explained the Bannu that Even great Saints and Sadhu had been using that weapon to get their demands
met. Baba Sankidas was a master strategist. He said that agitations, bandhs and dharna were organized without
obtaining the consent of the cause or issue. The leader of the Cow Protection Movement never asked the cows
before they launched their campaign. In a newspaper “Millions of Virtuous People Demand Bannu’s Life
must be saved. Horrible consequences if Bannu Dies”. During ten days fast, Bannu suffered terrible. He was
ready to break the fast to save his life. But his supporters would not let him retreat.
At last government accepted the Bannu’s demand in principle and a committee was set up to resolve
procedural problems. Baba Sankidas offered a glass of orange juice to him. Baba declared “ In a Democracy,
public opinion has to be respected”.
In the “ Declaration of Principles” Bannu says that his soul calls out of him saying, that he is only one-half.
His other half is in Savitri. His soul asks to bring the two halves together and make them one.
6.) Go, Kiss The World
The narrator, Bagchi’s father was a district employment officer. And his mother was an educated woman.
The narrator got the lesson was, one should treat the small with more respects than one treats the big people.
The children were told to fold the paper neatly when they had read it. The simple lesson father taught his sons
was that one should leave one’s newspaper and his toilet as neat and clean as one expects to find them.
Narrator’s mother was in the hospital in a paralytic state. She was neither getting better nor moving on.
Eventually, he had to return to the U.S.A. to work. While leaving her behind, he kissed her face. In that
paralytic stat and a garbled voice, she said to him, “Why are you kissing me, go kiss the world”. The mother
taught two valuable lessons to her sons: one, never to depend on other’s help as far as possible. Two, one
should remain optimistic and see only light even with one’s eye closed.

Success to the narrator is about vision. He feels imagination is everything. If we can imagine a future, we
can create it, if we can create that future, other will live in it that is the essence of success.
7.) Amalkanti
Amalkanti was a friend of the narraotor. Some of the classmate wanted to be teachers, some have become
doctors, some lawyers. However, Amalkanti didn’t want to be any of these. He is more or less an idealist, a
day dreamer. He sets his goal too high, and it is vague also. He plans to spread light. But he works in a poorly
lit room for printer.
The poem message is that day-dreaming is a wastage of time. One must not set one’s goal too high. One must
not cry for the moon. Amalkanti wanted to light up the world like a sun.
8.) Hitting Dowry for a Six
Two women who took a bold stand against dowry have been Satyarani Chaddha and Nisha Sharma. Satyarani
Chaddha decided to raise the banner against the custom when her own daughter was tortured and killed for
not bringing a sufficient dowry in late 1970s.
Nisha sharma was set to marry a boy when everything went wrong. The boy’s parents, particularly his mother,
demanded a big amount before the final ceremony. She insulted an abused Nisha’s parents. At this, Nisha
called off the engagement. The press hailed her as a great fighter.
The common belief in support of dowry is that the girl should not be a burden in her in-law’s house. How can
a woman be a burden? Instead, she is an assets. She works as a domestic help and serves the entire household.
A girls ability to refuse a dowry-hunter in our culture depends a great deal on the support she gets from her
family. Parents have to decide that they will not get their daughters married to those who demand a dowry
directly on indirectly. In fact, it is combination of the determination of girls, supportive parents and a change
in our perverted that will end this ‘evil’. A law can only help to some extent. It cannot change the present
mindsets. There is something very sick, and very wrong, in this mentality.
9.) Chocolate
Abhay, Tara’s husband had a motive in supplying plenty of chocolates to his wife. He was carrying on an
affair with some other woman. To hide all this he supplied her as much quantity of foreign chocolates as she
demanded. Over eating specially chocolates, add to her weight. He had no interest in her, no need to see her
slim and smart. Tara could not bear a child for several years after marriage. She went to doctor, he declared
that the sperm count of her husband was low, so he was infertile. He was unfit to father a child.
When she comes to know of Abhay’s affair, she stops eating chocolates and loses her weight. She thought a
better strategy to teach Abhay a lesson and bring him round. She joined a cooking class. She began to cook
ever new and delicious dishes. Abhay ate them greedily and put on fat. He became so unattractive that his
affair with another woman broke up. Then she herself had an affair with Abhay’s friend. When she found
herself pregnant, she was exhilarated. She promptly took step to get rid of the friend saying that ‘Abhay
suspects’.

10.) Gandhian In Garhwal : Chandi Prasad Bhatt
Chandi Prasad Bahtt was born in a family of priests who took care of the shiva temple of Rudranath. He was
often called upon to walk to the temple. In 1960 , he decided to dedicate his whole life to the Sarvodaya
Movement. It was a considerable sacrifice, for he was now married and had a child.
In 1964, was founded the Dashauli Gram Seva Sangh(DGSS). This foundation was laid by Sucheta Kirpalani,
CM of Uttar Pradesh that time. In 1978, the forest department refused to allot some hornbeam trees to DGSS.
The hard wood of the tree was needed to make agricultural implements. But the Deptt. auctioned off the trees
to a sports good company of Allahbad. The residents of Mandal village , new those trees threatened to hug
the trees rather than allow the tree choppers to fell them. They saved the trees. In recoginiton of their Chipko
Andolan, the Dashauli Gram Seva Sangh was given a name, replacing Sangh with Mandal.
This was followed by some more protests against commercial foresting in the Alakhananda Valey. Chandi
Prasad was the chief organizer. It was taken up by another Gandhian Suderlal Bahuguna in the Bhagirathi
valley and his associates. They also added to it the task of reconstruction of planting trees on the hill sides.
11.) Mother
In this poem a mother lays down rules of conduct for her 17 years old daughter. She compare her self to a
Plant, a snake, a fish in a bowl and a river. The girl here speaks to mother and requests her not to imposer
her will on her. Mother warns her not to show off before strangers, not to flirt with every passing person, not
to behave like a tomboy or a child.
And the daughter tells mother not to kill her hopes and budding desires, not to take away her freedom, not to
brainwash her, or to frighten her with the authority of age and custom, and finally not to expect her to obey
her quietly. The central idea or them of the poem is the generation gap. The youngsters want to live life as
they want to.They want freedom to dress and address just as they deem fit.
12.) Lost And Found : Benegal’s Bose
Shyam Benegal’s film” The Forgotten Hero” deals with the last four years of Subhas Chandra Bose’s life. This was
the most stormy period of Bose’s career which ended with his death in an air crash. Many of the incidents depicted are
fictinal. Benegal’s added such a comic apisode to dramatise the difficult journey of Bose form Germany to Japan. He
got married in December 1937on a short visit to Europe. He told a lie in order to keep up his image. But according to
the writer he wrote a letter to his brother Sarat, admitted to got married. Subhas made good his escape form Kolkatta to
Afganishtan. When he reached there, he jumped with joy. He tossed a coin with George VI’s face on the ground. He
kicked it and spat on it. Mihir wished Benegal’s film ended with the air crash that killed Subhas. But Benegal’s shows
only the taking off the plane. A clear cut crash scene would have set at rest the silly controversy over Bose’s death.
Mihir things Bose is a lost hero because Bose is not remembered as hero of armed struggle against the British. Benegal’s
calls Bose a forgotten hero only.
Mihie Bose, it is apparent, is more critical of Benegal’s film than appreciative. He lists a dozen os shortcomings and
only one good feature of the film. He admires Benegal’s for talking an explosive and controversial subject, a major
Indian Poltical figure, Subhas Chandra Bose.

Paaramma is a litte arrogant girl because she happens to be the daughter of a respectable farmer. She pretends
to have no fear of punishment for any of her offences. On the other hand Gaviri, the little girl, and daughter
of a poor labourer is not sent to any school. Her father say’s that labourer doesn’t need any formal education.
Gaviri needed soapnut leaves as fire fule at home. She sets out every morning to collect those dry leaves which
are faily thick. Only few of them fill her basket. They both reached to the filed and few stones at the tamarind
tree to get fruits. The landlord’s voice sounded like a thunder to Gaviri. She bent like a bow before him. But
he gave her basket a kick and abused her. She assured him that she had not stolen cattle dung. In fact, it was
the work of the Landlord’s own farm workers. She promised never to come here again, but all in vain. He
rained blows on her because she was a soft target, the daughter of the poor labourer. She cried with pain,
cursed the devil and wept bitterly.
In our society women are at the receiving end of sufferings. They are underfed, and overworked. For all their
services, they are thrashed, abused and killed.
14.) The Lost Word
In this poem a woman gets very uneasy over her loss. It was a word of two- letter word. She can not recall it.
He tried hard to remember when she had used that word earlier. She made frantic effort to recall the right word
e.g behind the sofa, at the back of dusty cupboards, under the carpet, drawers and rubbish sacks etc. but she
did not succeed she has forgotten the words from the native tongue because she has been using for a long time
a foreign language.
15.) Lambo To The Slaughter
Mary Maloney was the wife of Patrick Maloney, was a detective in police department. One day, during Mary’s
pregnancy. She waited anxiously for Patrick’s home coming in evening. The two share drinks also. So on that
evening he told his wife about the affair with other women. His decision was to divorce her. He promised to
pay her a huge sum for her maintenance. He asked her not to prepare food for him as he was going out shortly.
She hit him hard on the head and killed him. She hit the leg of the lamb. Then she planned every move carefully
to prove her innocence. She put the meat into the oven. Next she tried to smile. Then she went to Sam’s Shop
to buy potatoes and peas. She returned and rang up the police. She gave no clue about her guilt. She persuaded
the detectives to drink and eat up the motton. While they were eating up the only piece of evidence i.e the leg
of the lamb, she began to laugh in a suppressed manner at her own ingenuity and at the foolishness of the
policeman. Thus, she got rid of her husband murder.
16.) Some People
In this poem the society is divided in to two classes of the rich and the poor. The speaker belongs to the
category of those who know the pain. She is a poor mother of starving children. Her identity is made by saying
sex abused by other people. Her gender and her care for her children work to her disadvantage. The children
make such strange and fanatic excuses in order to send the creditors, the rent man, the milk man, the coal man,
and the blanket man. They come frequently to collect payments which the poor mother can’t pay. Poverty robs
her of self-respect, her security and all her rights.

Short Reports
A visit to Science Fair
A very successful book fair was held at Pragti Maidan, Delhi. for a week in which many national and
international publishers participated with their unique compositions. The educational Minister of Delhi was
the chief guest on this great occasion. There was a great rush of students, teachers and books lovers. There
were different kinds of books by different-2 writers. Really that fair was a golden opportunity of whole seller
and lovers of books. They were also offering discount on sale. I collected catalogues from various stalls and
bought a few books. Thousand of books were punished every day. I wondered how one could read all those
books in the limited time. The visit proved very rewarding. It was good to be there.
A Road Accident
A very terrible road accident took palace yesterday at 5: 30 p.m on the main road Sarojni Nagar when a Truck
collided with Maruti car in which four person were sitting. The reason was that Maruti car was on his break-
neck speed without keeping in view the safety and traffic rules in mind. In between I heard a high pitched
noise and i turned to see what was happening. I t was a fatal collision. The truck was loaded with iron bars.
Actually the main reason of this accident that the truck driver was trying to overtake the maruti car. The truck

the spot. And other were injured and taken to the near by civil hospital. The police were informed immediately.
The ambulance came there in no time. The car was totally damaged. I was much troubled and returned home.
I could not sleep properly in the night.
World Environment Day
A very successful ‘World Environment Day” was celebrated in our school on 5th
June 2010. On this day all
the near by school were invited. The participants had written papers as well as interested with the experts on
suggesting the ways to control the spreading pollution in every nook and corner of the city They accepted the
facts that our environment in under the attack of constant pollution through various agents like water, s oil, air
and noise. Al of the stressed the need for keeping the surrounding and the environment neat and clean as
unhealthy surroundings give a birth to a lot of diseases. It was pointed out in the discussion that over population
n has poses a serous problem for our environment. They suggested that every item is under the impact of
pollution and nothing is safe, pure and fresh. They viewed that we must plant trees and do not cut the tress.
The use of CNG should be compulsory in all the vehicles with noise resistant. There were other activities like
sampling planting, free vehicle pollution check, environment quiz and poster making competition. It was a
very specific program and opened the eyes of the people. The school came to a close with light refreshment.
Position of Women in Society
In the nation’s development, human resources play a major role in contributing towards the betterment of
society as our society is dependent on human resources. These are the real and precious assets. But it has been
a male dominated world all along the ages. Biologically superiority of man over woman has made him a
feeling less monster. They lead to life with in the four-walls of the family. They turned her just to an object of
gratifying his sexual lust and physical desires. Child marriage, ban on the widow re-marriage, ‘sati-tradition’,
‘purda-system’, and many other atrocities on woman in middle ages. However the scenario is changing very
fast. In this regard we must not forget that men and women go side by side in every field of life. We can see
them working in the fields, offices, schools, banks, courts and in so many others organizations. We cannot
ignore this large segment of population and allow it to remain unproductive. Woman has proved to be better
doctor, artist, administrative, academics and engineers etc. They are pressing for reservation of seats in the
Parliament. Crime against women and exploitation of woman will not be taken by the more conscious,
confident and aggressive woman in future.
Are Women Safe in India ?
The condition of women in India has always been a matter of grave concern. Since the past several centuries,
the women of India were never given equal status and opportunities as compared to that of their male

counterparts. The patriarchal nature of Indian society, which even though gives respect to women as they are
our mothers and sisters, has greatly hampered both the independence as well as the safety of women.
One of the main reasons of violence against women is the mentality which deems women inferior of men and
merely limits their importance to the maintenance of the household, the upbringing of children and pleasing
their husbands and serving other members of the family.
Even in today's times of modernization of society, many working women are still subjected to immense
pressure to shoulder the dual responsibility of a housewife and a working woman simultaneously with little
or no help from their husbands.
It is the same mentality which, some generations ago, used to think of women as mere objects of attaining
sexual pleasure and a servant of the husband, who was considered "parameshwar" which literally translates to
"supreme God".
Times have changed but the mentality still prevails in the mindsets of several narrow minded Indians.
The recent incident in which a 23 year old paramedical student was gang-raped by 6 men inside a moving bus
near a posh Delhi locality and thrown off the bus naked after herself and her male friend were beaten and
assaulted with an iron rod has undoubtedly shocked the nation to its core.
This was reflected in the massive protests that followed the incident, demanding justice for the victim,
Strong and stringent laws are definitely necessary as the existing laws have proved to be inefficient in ensuring
swift justice and appropriate punishment to the guilty. But the actual need of the hour is a revolutionary change
in the mindsets and conscience of Indian men so that they stop seeing women as objects of sexual pleasure.
Honour Killing
Honour killing is a social evil that has existed in our society for a very long time. It might have emerged with
the on set of civilization. In this modern world we are depend the old tradition of living the life. The root cause
of this social evil lies in exercise of parental authority, over their children as their matter of right. The thinking
that whatever parents think is right; that children can’t take decision for their life partner, their future or career
goals. Sometimes it is good but now a days the trend has been changed everyone have rights to leave in
freedom. But majority of Indian parents don’t trust their children when it comes to decide their life partner or
career. The evil of Honour Killing began to raise its ugliest head when structure of society becomes more and
more complex. It is more frequently found in rural areas where the light of education is yet to reach. When
such type of case comes in light, it’s very shocking. The perpetrators do not regret after killing their daughters,
sisters and their boy friends. Rather the killings are glorified. The ways of killings are very terrified and brutal
going beyond the limits of humanity. For example: In Delhi the couple was electrocuted after being closed
and tied in an iron box. Not only old generation but the youths who are expected to bring out the change and
revolution in society are also killing their sisters, cosines in the name of family honours. Whatever the reason
and whoever the perpetrator, Honour killing is totally wrong and a punishable crime. It is against the pattern
of society and civilization. Each older generation give way to the forthcoming generation the freedom to take
their decisions about their life priorities. We must have to trust our children. The practice of Honour Killing
must be stopped immediately and all legal agencies, Govt. NGO’s, Social activities should come forward to

Corruption
Now-a-days corruption can be seen everywhere. It is like cancer in public life, which has not become so
rampant and perpetuated overnight, but in course of time. A country where leaders like Mahatma Gandhi,
Sardar Patel, Lai Bahadur Shastri and Kamraj have taken birth and led a value-based is now facing the problem
of corruption. When we talk of corruption in public life, it covers corruption in politics, state governments,
central governments, "business, industry and so on. Public dealing counters in most all government offices are
the places where corruption most evident. If anybody does not pay for the work it is sure work won't be done.
The older the system the weaker it grows and fails to solve the riddles of life that grows more complex every
day. So men lose faith in it and let it drift down. At this point corruption takes over and plunges the entire
society. The flourishing black market in essential commodities, adulteration of even baby- food, bribery, fraud
and economic, political and administrative manipulations with an eye on earning profits has brought untold
misery to the people. Corruption can be need-based or greed-based. Better governance can at least help to
check need-based corruption. Better governance can check greed based corruption also because punishment
for the corrupt will be very effective and prompt in a better-governed country. The steps should be taken to
correct the situation overall. Declarations of property and assets of the government employees are made
compulsory and routine and surprise inspections and raids be conducted at certain intervals. Though it seems
very difficult to control corruption but it is not impossible. It is not only the responsibility of the government
but ours too. We can eliminate corruption if there will be joint effort. We must have some high principles to
follow so that we may be models for the coming generation. Let us take a view to create an atmosphere free
from corruption. That will be our highest achievement as human beings.

It stood by a mournful sea which had plenty of glum fish, not worth eating. The ruined building looked like broken hearts in the sad city. Rashid Khalifa was a story maker. He was made famous throught the city by his story telling. His tales were tall and short and winding, above all never ending. His admirers used to call him the Ocean of Notions. Haroun, the only child of the storyteller Rahid Khalifa. Whenever Haroun asked his father about the sources of his stories, instead of giving a proper reply, he would narrow his slightly bulging eyes and pat his wobbly stomach and stick his thum between his lips. The Senguptas lived upstairs. Mr Sengupta became interested in Soraya, Rashid’s wife. She was unhappy as she felt neglected by her husband who had busy life. Her husband remained out. Mr. Sengupta criticized Rashid for not talking life seriously. Thus, he persuaded her to run off with him. At this stage when Haroun heard his father sounding so pathetic, he lost his temper and shouted: “ What’s the point of it ? What’s the use of stories that are not even ture ?” Rashid hid his face in his hand and wept. Haroun wanted to get those words back. 3.) Her elder sisteris very sensible, and loving. She knows that the elder sister alone in the family loves her truly. She gives her sound advice not to question the grown ups. She against the Puja on Ashtami day because she want to be treated like a human being, not as a goddess on a certain day in the year. Society is prejudiced against women, treats them domestic help, as sex pots, as a commodity. And all this is tolerated by men folk who adore women also as deities or symbol of power. Women are worshipped as Durga or chandi who once killed the demons. Her cry is loud and clear, only the society is deaf to that. 4.) Sisters It draws the picture of two daughters. There is a gap of less than five yrs between their ages. The younger sister is bolder, cleverer and sweeter than honey. She sheds crocodile tears. She cries and take u-turn easily. Most of the times father scolds the elder one for the faults of the younger one. Elder one criticise the father for taking wrong side. At this father shouted her down. Father realises that he unduly favours the younger one and scolds the elder one. He also praises his elder daughter’s virtues. 5.) A Ten Day Fast Bannu was interested in Radhika Babu’s wife, Savitri. He wished to grab her at any cost. Savitri had no liking at all for Bannu who loved her madly. She even hated the man. The narrator advised him to take some extreme step to get her. That step was to undertake indefinite fast. ”. So Bannu went on a fast unto death. Savitri got angry when he sat of fast to get her. He made him confident that there was nothing wrong or laughable in it. He explained the Bannu that Even great Saints and Sadhu had been using that weapon to get their demands met. Baba Sankidas was a master strategist. He said that agitations, bandhs and dharna were organized without obtaining the consent of the cause or issue. The leader of the Cow Protection Movement never asked the cows before they launched their campaign. In a newspaper “Millions of Virtuous People Demand Bannu’s Life must be saved. Horrible consequences if Bannu Dies”. During ten days fast, Bannu suffered terrible. He was ready to break the fast to save his life. But his supporters would not let him retreat. At last government accepted the Bannu’s demand in principle and a committee was set up to resolve procedural problems. Baba Sankidas offered a glass of orange juice to him. Baba declared “ In a Democracy, public opinion has to be respected”. In the “ Declaration of Principles” Bannu says that his soul calls out of him saying, that he is only one-half. His other half is in Savitri. His soul asks to bring the two halves together and make them one. 6.) Go, Kiss The World The narrator, Bagchi’s father was a district employment officer. And his mother was an educated woman. The narrator got the lesson was, one should treat the small with more respects than one treats the big people. The children were told to fold the paper neatly when they had read it. The simple lesson father taught his sons was that one should leave one’s newspaper and his toilet as neat and clean as one expects to find them. Narrator’s mother was in the hospital in a paralytic state. She was neither getting better nor moving on. Eventually, he had to return to the U.S.A. to work. While leaving her behind, he kissed her face. In that paralytic stat and a garbled voice, she said to him, “Why are you kissing me, go kiss the world”. The mother taught two valuable lessons to her sons: one, never to depend on other’s help as far as possible. Two, one should remain optimistic and see only light even with one’s eye closed. Success to thenarrator is about vision. He feels imagination is everything. If we can imagine a future, we can create it, if we can create that future, other will live in it that is the essence of success. 7.) Amalkanti Amalkanti was a friend of the narraotor. Some of the classmate wanted to be teachers, some have become doctors, some lawyers. However, Amalkanti didn’t want to be any of these. He is more or less an idealist, a day dreamer. He sets his goal too high, and it is vague also. He plans to spread light. But he works in a poorly lit room for printer. The poem message is that day-dreaming is a wastage of time. One must not set one’s goal too high. One must not cry for the moon. Amalkanti wanted to light up the world like a sun. 8.) Hitting Dowry for a Six Two women who took a bold stand against dowry have been Satyarani Chaddha and Nisha Sharma. Satyarani Chaddha decided to raise the banner against the custom when her own daughter was tortured and killed for not bringing a sufficient dowry in late 1970s. Nisha sharma was set to marry a boy when everything went wrong. The boy’s parents, particularly his mother, demanded a big amount before the final ceremony. She insulted an abused Nisha’s parents. At this, Nisha called off the engagement. The press hailed her as a great fighter. The common belief in support of dowry is that the girl should not be a burden in her in-law’s house. How can a woman be a burden? Instead, she is an assets. She works as a domestic help and serves the entire household. A girls ability to refuse a dowry-hunter in our culture depends a great deal on the support she gets from her family. Parents have to decide that they will not get their daughters married to those who demand a dowry directly on indirectly. In fact, it is combination of the determination of girls, supportive parents and a change in our perverted that will end this ‘evil’. A law can only help to some extent. It cannot change the present mindsets. There is something very sick, and very wrong, in this mentality. 9.) Chocolate Abhay, Tara’s husband had a motive in supplying plenty of chocolates to his wife. He was carrying on an affair with some other woman. To hide all this he supplied her as much quantity of foreign chocolates as she demanded. Over eating specially chocolates, add to her weight. He had no interest in her, no need to see her slim and smart. Tara could not bear a child for several years after marriage. She went to doctor, he declared that the sperm count of her husband was low, so he was infertile. He was unfit to father a child. When she comes to know of Abhay’s affair, she stops eating chocolates and loses her weight. She thought a better strategy to teach Abhay a lesson and bring him round. She joined a cooking class. She began to cook ever new and delicious dishes. Abhay ate them greedily and put on fat. He became so unattractive that his affair with another woman broke up. Then she herself had an affair with Abhay’s friend. When she found herself pregnant, she was exhilarated. She promptly took step to get rid of the friend saying that ‘Abhay suspects’. 10.) Gandhian InGarhwal : Chandi Prasad Bhatt Chandi Prasad Bahtt was born in a family of priests who took care of the shiva temple of Rudranath. He was often called upon to walk to the temple. In 1960 , he decided to dedicate his whole life to the Sarvodaya Movement. It was a considerable sacrifice, for he was now married and had a child. In 1964, was founded the Dashauli Gram Seva Sangh(DGSS). This foundation was laid by Sucheta Kirpalani, CM of Uttar Pradesh that time. In 1978, the forest department refused to allot some hornbeam trees to DGSS. The hard wood of the tree was needed to make agricultural implements. But the Deptt. auctioned off the trees to a sports good company of Allahbad. The residents of Mandal village , new those trees threatened to hug the trees rather than allow the tree choppers to fell them. They saved the trees. In recoginiton of their Chipko Andolan, the Dashauli Gram Seva Sangh was given a name, replacing Sangh with Mandal. This was followed by some more protests against commercial foresting in the Alakhananda Valey. Chandi Prasad was the chief organizer. It was taken up by another Gandhian Suderlal Bahuguna in the Bhagirathi valley and his associates. They also added to it the task of reconstruction of planting trees on the hill sides. 11.) Mother In this poem a mother lays down rules of conduct for her 17 years old daughter. She compare her self to a Plant, a snake, a fish in a bowl and a river. The girl here speaks to mother and requests her not to imposer her will on her. Mother warns her not to show off before strangers, not to flirt with every passing person, not to behave like a tomboy or a child. And the daughter tells mother not to kill her hopes and budding desires, not to take away her freedom, not to brainwash her, or to frighten her with the authority of age and custom, and finally not to expect her to obey her quietly. The central idea or them of the poem is the generation gap. The youngsters want to live life as they want to.They want freedom to dress and address just as they deem fit. 12.) Lost And Found : Benegal’s Bose Shyam Benegal’s film” The Forgotten Hero” deals with the last four years of Subhas Chandra Bose’s life. This was the most stormy period of Bose’s career which ended with his death in an air crash. Many of the incidents depicted are fictinal. Benegal’s added such a comic apisode to dramatise the difficult journey of Bose form Germany to Japan. He got married in December 1937on a short visit to Europe. He told a lie in order to keep up his image. But according to the writer he wrote a letter to his brother Sarat, admitted to got married. Subhas made good his escape form Kolkatta to Afganishtan. When he reached there, he jumped with joy. He tossed a coin with George VI’s face on the ground. He kicked it and spat on it. Mihir wished Benegal’s film ended with the air crash that killed Subhas. But Benegal’s shows only the taking off the plane. A clear cut crash scene would have set at rest the silly controversy over Bose’s death. Mihir things Bose is a lost hero because Bose is not remembered as hero of armed struggle against the British. Benegal’s calls Bose a forgotten hero only. Mihie Bose, it is apparent, is more critical of Benegal’s film than appreciative. He lists a dozen os shortcomings and only one good feature of the film. He admires Benegal’s for talking an explosive and controversial subject, a major Indian Poltical figure, Subhas Chandra Bose. 13.) Paaramma is alitte arrogant girl because she happens to be the daughter of a respectable farmer. She pretends to have no fear of punishment for any of her offences. On the other hand Gaviri, the little girl, and daughter of a poor labourer is not sent to any school. Her father say’s that labourer doesn’t need any formal education. Gaviri needed soapnut leaves as fire fule at home. She sets out every morning to collect those dry leaves which are faily thick. Only few of them fill her basket. They both reached to the filed and few stones at the tamarind tree to get fruits. The landlord’s voice sounded like a thunder to Gaviri. She bent like a bow before him. But he gave her basket a kick and abused her. She assured him that she had not stolen cattle dung. In fact, it was the work of the Landlord’s own farm workers. She promised never to come here again, but all in vain. He rained blows on her because she was a soft target, the daughter of the poor labourer. She cried with pain, cursed the devil and wept bitterly. In our society women are at the receiving end of sufferings. They are underfed, and overworked. For all their services, they are thrashed, abused and killed. 14.) The Lost Word In this poem a woman gets very uneasy over her loss. It was a word of two- letter word. She can not recall it. He tried hard to remember when she had used that word earlier. She made frantic effort to recall the right word e.g behind the sofa, at the back of dusty cupboards, under the carpet, drawers and rubbish sacks etc. but she did not succeed she has forgotten the words from the native tongue because she has been using for a long time a foreign language. 15.) Lambo To The Slaughter Mary Maloney was the wife of Patrick Maloney, was a detective in police department. One day, during Mary’s pregnancy. She waited anxiously for Patrick’s home coming in evening. The two share drinks also. So on that evening he told his wife about the affair with other women. His decision was to divorce her. He promised to pay her a huge sum for her maintenance. He asked her not to prepare food for him as he was going out shortly. She hit him hard on the head and killed him. She hit the leg of the lamb. Then she planned every move carefully to prove her innocence. She put the meat into the oven. Next she tried to smile. Then she went to Sam’s Shop to buy potatoes and peas. She returned and rang up the police. She gave no clue about her guilt. She persuaded the detectives to drink and eat up the motton. While they were eating up the only piece of evidence i.e the leg of the lamb, she began to laugh in a suppressed manner at her own ingenuity and at the foolishness of the policeman. Thus, she got rid of her husband murder. 16.) Some People In this poem the society is divided in to two classes of the rich and the poor. The speaker belongs to the category of those who know the pain. She is a poor mother of starving children. Her identity is made by saying sex abused by other people. Her gender and her care for her children work to her disadvantage. The children make such strange and fanatic excuses in order to send the creditors, the rent man, the milk man, the coal man, and the blanket man. They come frequently to collect payments which the poor mother can’t pay. Poverty robs her of self-respect, her security and all her rights. Position of Women in Society In the nation’s development, human resources play a major role in contributing towards the betterment of society as our society is dependent on human resources. These are the real and precious assets. But it has been a male dominated world all along the ages. Biologically superiority of man over woman has made him a feeling less monster. They lead to life with in the four-walls of the family. They turned her just to an object of gratifying his sexual lust and physical desires. Child marriage, ban on the widow re-marriage, ‘sati-tradition’, ‘purda-system’, and many other atrocities on woman in middle ages. However the scenario is changing very fast. In this regard we must not forget that men and women go side by side in every field of life. We can see them working in the fields, offices, schools, banks, courts and in so many others organizations. We cannot ignore this large segment of population and allow it to remain unproductive. Woman has proved to be better doctor, artist, administrative, academics and engineers etc. They are pressing for reservation of seats in the Parliament. Crime against women and exploitation of woman will not be taken by the more conscious, confident and aggressive woman in future. Are Women Safe in India ? The condition of women in India has always been a matter of grave concern. counterparts. The patriarchalnature of Indian society, which even though gives respect to women as they are our mothers and sisters, has greatly hampered both the independence as well as the safety of women. One of the main reasons of violence against women is the mentality which deems women inferior of men and merely limits their importance to the maintenance of the household, the upbringing of children and pleasing their husbands and serving other members of the family. Even in today's times of modernization of society, many working women are still subjected to immense pressure to shoulder the dual responsibility of a housewife and a working woman simultaneously with little or no help from their husbands. It is the same mentality which, some generations ago, used to think of women as mere objects of attaining sexual pleasure and a servant of the husband, who was considered "parameshwar" which literally translates to "supreme God". Times have changed but the mentality still prevails in the mindsets of several narrow minded Indians. The recent incident in which a 23 year old paramedical student was gang-raped by 6 men inside a moving bus near a posh Delhi locality and thrown off the bus naked after herself and her male friend were beaten and assaulted with an iron rod has undoubtedly shocked the nation to its core. This was reflected in the massive protests that followed the incident, demanding justice for the victim, Strong and stringent laws are definitely necessary as the existing laws have proved to be inefficient in ensuring swift justice and appropriate punishment to the guilty. But the actual need of the hour is a revolutionary change in the mindsets and conscience of Indian men so that they stop seeing women as objects of sexual pleasure. Honour Killing Honour killing is a social evil that has existed in our society for a very long time. It might have emerged with the on set of civilization. In this modern world we are depend the old tradition of living the life. The root cause of this social evil lies in exercise of parental authority, over their children as their matter of right. The thinking that whatever parents think is right; that children can’t take decision for their life partner, their future or career goals. Sometimes it is good but now a days the trend has been changed everyone have rights to leave in freedom. But majority of Indian parents don’t trust their children when it comes to decide their life partner or career. The evil of Honour Killing began to raise its ugliest head when structure of society becomes more and more complex. It is more frequently found in rural areas where the light of education is yet to reach. When such type of case comes in light, it’s very shocking. The perpetrators do not regret after killing their daughters, sisters and their boy friends. Rather the killings are glorified. The ways of killings are very terrified and brutal going beyond the limits of humanity. For example: In Delhi the couple was electrocuted after being closed and tied in an iron box. Not only old generation but the youths who are expected to bring out the change and revolution in society are also killing their sisters, cosines in the name of family honours. Whatever the reason and whoever the perpetrator, Honour killing is totally wrong and a punishable crime. It is against the pattern of society and civilization. Each older generation give way to the forthcoming generation the freedom to take their decisions about their life priorities. We must have to trust our children. The practice of Honour Killing must be stopped immediately and all legal agencies, Govt. NGO’s, Social activities should come forward to T u t o r i a l s D u n i y a . c o m TutorialsDuniya.com से DU BA Prog के Notes और Question Papers डाउनलोड करें Download DU BA Prog Notes & Question Papers from TutorialsDuniya.com

rescue the youngboys or girls who have decided their life partners on their own. Corruption Now-a-days corruption can be seen everywhere. It is like cancer in public life, which has not become so rampant and perpetuated overnight, but in course of time. A country where leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Lai Bahadur Shastri and Kamraj have taken birth and led a value-based is now facing the problem of corruption. When we talk of corruption in public life, it covers corruption in politics, state governments, central governments, "business, industry and so on. Public dealing counters in most all government offices are the places where corruption most evident. If anybody does not pay for the work it is sure work won't be done. The older the system the weaker it grows and fails to solve the riddles of life that grows more complex every day. So men lose faith in it and let it drift down. At this point corruption takes over and plunges the entire society. The flourishing black market in essential commodities, adulteration of even baby- food, bribery, fraud and economic, political and administrative manipulations with an eye on earning profits has brought untold misery to the people. Corruption can be need-based or greed-based. Better governance can at least help to check need-based corruption. Better governance can check greed based corruption also because punishment for the corrupt will be very effective and prompt in a better-governed country. The steps should be taken to correct the situation overall. Declarations of property and assets of the government employees are made compulsory and routine and surprise inspections and raids be conducted at certain intervals. Though it seems very difficult to control corruption but it is not impossible. It is not only the responsibility of the government but ours too. We can eliminate corruption if there will be joint effort. We must have some high principles to follow so that we may be models for the coming generation. Let us take a view to create an atmosphere free from corruption. That will be our highest achievement as human beings.
