The IT investment estimates for medium and large Italian companies for 2012, in the infrastructure field, are
focused on security, business continuity and disaster recovery. This appears from the data of the latest Cio
Survey carried out by NetConsulting. Another, more detailed report, prepared by Nextvalue and consisting of
the Information Security Management theme, pointed out that most of the large Italian companies today
consider very critical and significant the impact of the security solutions on business processes concerning the
budget allocated to this segment and which currently cover only 5% of that intended for the whole computer
process.

Description of the infrastructure
Desc
DSS has two server farms dedicated to Horatio, the Private Secure Backup Cloud service located in highly strategic
geographical areas, in order to ensure continuity of the supplied services. The data centers that house the two server farms
are certified facilities which make use of technological systems designed and manufactured in order to drastically reduce
energy consumption compared to equivalent traditional systems and, consequently, to contain considerably the CO2
emissions significantly.
The main characteristics of the site are:
•rooms built in compliance with the anti-earthquake standards in force;
•anti-flooding system;
• rooms fitted with a floating floor designed to support a maximum load of 1,800 kg/m² and separate lines for data
electrical and cabling;
•electric feed system completely redundant on two distinct lines;
•redundant and dedicated electrical continuity system (Uninterruptible Power Supply systems, one for each of the two
feed lines);
• auxiliary power supply system (diesel engine driven generator with automatic start);
•smoke detection system and fire extinguishing in every room of the building (smoke and fire detectors with activation of
the automatic fire extinguishing systems with Argon gas extinguishing room saturation);
•Conditioning systems with controlled temperature and humidity;
• burglar alarms system (the rooms and entrances are monitored by sensors and volumetric magnetic contact sensors
whose signals are remote and analyzed at the local supervision H24);
• Access control system through personal badges (detection and authentication for access into the data room);
• Possibility to carry out maintenance and repair operations without interrupting the service or reducing possible
interruptions to a minimum.

Data Center
The data center is a technologically advanced building, consisting solely of appropriately fitted rooms, equipped with
technology capable of providing band reliability and availability for all the services.
The rooms have been planned, designed and built in compliance with earthquake standards in force and equipped with
anti-flooding and burglar systems as well as air conditioning systems with controlled temperature and humidity.
Two feed lines for electric power with redundant and dedicated electrical continuity systems (Uninterruptible Power
Supply) ensure the continuity of energy supply.
The Data Center is a technologically advanced building, consisting of appropriately fitted rooms, equipped with
technology capable of providing band reliability and availability for all the supplied services.

DSS Server Farm
The DSS server farms certifying within data centers are specifically designed to provide the Private Secure Cloud Backup
service.
The service operates through a virtualized network of computing nodes with High Availability and Fault Tolerance systems
distributed in order to ensure business continuity.
All the server farms are monitored 24x7x365 to ensure maximum efficiency and constant availability of the entire
infrastructure.


Cloud Backup

Horatio Secure Cloud Backup is a remote data protection service that allows backup and data restoring through a
dedicated application software and a specific web application.
Horatio uses a dedicated algorithm operating on the HTTP Protocol with SSL encryption in order to ensure the transferring
of the data from the source to be protected to the archiving-dedicated structure in an efficient and safe way.
The use of this methodology allows HORATIO to be a firewall friendly solution; i.e. the service does not require any
dedicated devices to cross the firewalling barriers as the standard internet communication channel is used.
Horatio makes efficient use of the internet bandwidth used for the backup process through the use of data compression
combined with the deduplication incremental mechanism and ensures data security through a 256-bit AES encryption.
Horatio exploits the versioning system of the files in such a way as to maintain, according to a predetermined retention,
multiple versions of the same protected file.

Horatio Secure Cloud Backup is a multi-platform solution and can work on multiple operating systems found on the market
Cloud
today.
The service aims at supporting the client in maintaining continuity of business operations, giving them the tools they need
to perform on a daily basis and in a totally automated way, the electronic transfer and remote storage of data to be saved,
directly from the Server and from the PC to a safe backup infrastructure cloud.

Thus, the service allows:
- the use of the filing infrastructure, software, management and monitoring system that enable the supplying and
implementation of the Service;
- to keep the different versions of the files selected for the backup;
- to restore the data when requested.

Cloud drive

This is a groundbreaking synchronization service which allows to keep the data in sync between a PC/laptop and an
appropriate remote virtual hard disk through the use of a dedicated software, whilst a web application allows the access to
and use of the service from any device connected to the internet. Just as Cloud Backup, Cloud Drive is able to work on the
most used operating system currently available on the market and it uses AES and 256 bit encryption together with HTTP
protocol and CSS encryption to guarantee the transfer and data storage safety from the source, to be synchronized with
the DSS Vaults.

Cloud plus

Horatio Plus allows you to replicate the IT infrastructure in part or in whole within the DSS Private Secure Cloud Backup.
Infrastructure replication allows to meet the requirements of disaster recovery and business continuity, due to the
possibility of using the replication as the primary solution in case of malfunction or damage to the physical infrastructure.
In addition, thanks to virtualization technology, it is possible to delete the physical infrastructure by using directly the
virtual replica performed within the DSS Private Secure Cloud Backup system.
Horatio Plus also enables the use of the DSS disaster recovery center where it is possible to obtain a desk with dedicated
workstations directly connected by means of the LAN to the Private Secure Cloud Backup.
