1. We at DSR operate differently than most record labels.
Here is what you can expect. Please read all points
before sending in inquiries.
2. We require quick discussions in board meetings
Our artist can have total freedom over their career but once signed we would like
to build you as a person instead of throwing you in with the wolves. We highly
recommend watching shows such as Unsung and Behind The Music to learn the
mistakes that other artist have made (bad managers, greedy family,
misjudgments). At every board meeting, time will be set aside to discuss what you’
ve learned. The past generations have made so many mistakes and we feel it is
foolish to not learn from them so you can be a BETTER artist.
3. Listen to other artist
The Dirty South Committee could not understand why so many unsigned artists
sound exactly alike. Then we realized that maybe they didn’t recognize the person
across the way has the exact same sound as them. Don’t be afraid to listen to
other artist. Nobody has to lose for you to win. An era of prosperity cannot occur
without the present peers feeding off other present peers.
4. DSR Artist will not participate on the charts.
We do not wish for our artist to be on the charts. We feel that it will take pressure
off the artist and they will be able to focus on making classics. Also, The Dirty
South Committee is highly upset that international players anthem was ranked
#70 on the charts in 2007. For Outkast & UGK really? Btw, Tupac’s first album didn’
t break top ten, nor was Brenda’s Got A Baby a top ten single. Just because it’s not
top ten doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
5. Replay Value
Replay Value is how you will be measured. Replay value is defined by the CEO as
being the number of times your record will be played before being played out.
Most current records have horrible replay values. Have you ever listened to a
song/album all day and then after a week you never listened to it again? That’s
bad replay value. Every time a person gets a new audio playback device, some
songs will always land back into their library. These songs are still being valued.
That’s good replay value. Think of songs that came out ten years ago that can still
get a crowd and the new generation involved. A song with high replay value will
always get you gigs. Can your record be on replay forever? That is what we aim for
over here.
6. No Award Shows
Artist are not allowed to participate in award shows. You can go and even present,
but you cannot perform or be nominated. Award shows are political and are
judged by people who may not even be familiar with the your style genre. Why hold
your artwork to the opinion of people who wouldn’t normally give your genre a
listen. Also, The Dirty South Committee is still upset (yes 20 years later) about how
Outkast was treated at the 1995 source awards (and every award show to honest)
and we will continue to hold it down for the South regardless.
7. Everyone gets the same chance
Do not ask to put your “homies” on. AGAIN, DO NOT ASK TO PUT YOUR HOMIES ON.
They can submit and go through the same process. Do you want to know the
biggest mistake new artist make? When they barely STEP FOOT into the industry
themselves , they immediately try to get other people on. You have to sustain
yourself first! If you can’t tell them, we don’t mind playing the villain.
8. Think Smart! Prepare for you decline or drought!
You will be fade out. For some reason, people become famous then think it will
last forever. The D.S.C. is not sure whether it is their managers, their families, or
the devil telling them that they are forever. Big lie. Not one person in the industry
has sustained with time. Not one whether comedian, actor, or performer. The
industry recycles every ten years. ONLY A FEW CAN STILL GET TOP 20 HITS. Don’t
believe us? Check the awards shows ten years ago and look at the crowd. Every
artist has their day. Elvis Presley ruled as king and yet still faded. The young is
forever young. You, however, will get older. This is when replay value comes in.
Replay value will still have you performing that one hit song at the local barbecues
before the social security can kick in.
9. Small Company. Large Impact
We will not sign a million artist. We will be a small record label that will hit hard.
Think about it as a mouse in a room full of elephants. We are small, but we are the
ones causing movement.
10. The Conscious Clause
This is a one time requirement. We require that you make at least one record for
the empowerment of the youth, young men, or young women. Just one. Again, the
industry recycles every ten years. If you sell out with just sex and drug records you
will feel foolish once you're 45, barely surviving, and didn’t make a difference with
the platform you were divinely given. Don’t try to bring the message once nobody
is listening to you anymore. Your time will be now. Just one is all we ask to make
you parents, family, religion, and future generations proud. Do something that will
make the future you think the current you.
11. We got marketing.
We will manage you in the beginning. The CEO has pretty much figured this
generation out. They are all sheep. Might of fact, it’s a good thing Red is a man of
God or he would have taken over the world by now. In saying this, we will get to
know you for a couple days and then we will match you with the right platform and
the hundreds of marketing strategies that we know will hook the adhd generation.
You just need the right minds to get you out there! (We will not disclose any
marketing strategies online for we realize that bigger companies may try to steal
them.We hope they steal these rules though. Music would be so much better.)
