Experimental setup • Used wild-type flies of CantonS background. • Flies bred at 25°C and 70% humidity under a 12h light/12h dark cycle. • 30 adult male flies (3–5 days old). • Two treatments, a total of 20 groups • One treatment transferred to regular molasses food (CTRL), and another with 0.50 mg/mL cocaine-hydrochloride (COC).

- Short life cycle: Drosophila melanogaster has a short life cycle, with a generation time of about 10 days, which makes it easy to study multiple generations in a short period of time. Small size: Fruit flies are small and easy to maintain in the laboratory, allowing researchers to keep large populations in small spaces. High reproductive rate: Fruit flies reproduce quickly and in large numbers, making it easy to generate a large number of offspring for experiments. Easy to manipulate genetically: Drosophila melanogaster is genetically tractable, meaning that it is easy to manipulate its genes to study their function. Large amount of genetic information available: Over the years, researchers have amassed a vast amount of genetic information about Drosophila melanogaster, making it easy to compare new findings with existing knowledge. Similarity to humans: Despite their small size, fruit flies share many similarities with humans in terms of their genetics and biology. Studying fruit flies can therefore provide insights into human biology and disease.
