Drupal is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) written in PHP that allows users with little technical knowledge to build and manage websites. It is used by over 1% of websites worldwide and by large sites such as WhiteHouse.gov. Drupal provides tools for adding, modifying, organizing and retrieving content with flexibility through its modular architecture and thousands of free themes and modules available.

What on earth is Drupal? Check out this awesome presentation by David Stagg, JMO and Albert Hughes for the answer. They will not only tell you what Drupal is, but what it can do and whether or not it is right for you.
With Hands on Drupal, you can dive into the easy world of this wonderful CMS. Content is easy to customize and create with CCK, and Views can display it every which way you can imagine. The flexible basis of Drupal, combined with the online community, will give you the solid foundation on which to build your next site.
This introduction to Drupal 6 was presented to the Chicago Web Professionals meetup as the third in a series of CMS introductions (following WordPress and Joomla)

Simplified gitflow has only one perpetual branch master which decreases the complexity, only one ticket can be deployed and tested in any given environment like staging or production. When only one ticket is deployed on a given environment, it is very easy to trace a problem if it occurs. As the full gitflow, master is the stable branch which can be deployed to production anytime.

Things I wished I knew while doing my tech bachelor / undergraduateGeshan Manandhar
This talk is about how to use your bachelor to craft your tech career. I started with what I have done and some examples of where my friends have reached. Then I focused on things to consider for selecting and doing projects for technical subjects in bachelor study.
After that I opened up the secrets of selecting a company and doing internship. To concluded I gave some tips on approaching the job market.
How to become a better software company technicallyGeshan Manandhar
I was in Kathmandu,Nepal for a week at the end of November and this time I talked about how to become a better software
company technically at YIPL done on 24-Nov-2014.
Generally the software scene in Nepal is good, a handful are working at big scale with hundreds of software engineers
and many are small with some developers. A thing I noticed talking with developers is that mostly is only about **making
things work**. The need to follow a proper release cycle with gitflow, or even follow a
defined issue flow and testing it in multiple environments is not felt.
Rule 1: Follow a consistent coding standard
Rule 2: Name things properly, long variable and function names are allowed
Rule 3: Be expressive, write code as you speak and be optimally verbose
Rule 4: Max indent per method should be 2, in case of exceptions 3
Rule 5: Avoid creating god object and long methods
Rule 6: Keep the method in one place, inject the class and call it, DRY
Rule 7: Avoid in-line comments (comment with code), put comments in the method doc
Are you still deploying with capistrano? It is high time to put the chat bots to work. Using chatops to deploy your software gives visibility to all team members. It also gives a consistent interface to deploy. Software Engineers do not need to install any extra software to deploy. Ops is happy because software engineers do not need SSH access to servers anymore. Namshi is a Rocket Internet e-commerce venture in Dubai. Are logs a software engineer’s best friend? Yes -- follow these best practicesGeshan Manandhar
Logs are an integral part of building happy, robust and scalable software, One of the common ways your application communicates back to you is in the form of logs and alerts. With application logs, you can unveil new insights about what is happening in your application in any environment. Logging is language and framework agnostic. You can get started with logging in a matter of minutes with cloud-based SAAS. At THE ICONIC, one of the most popular fashion e-commerce in Australia, we heavily use logging and instrumentation to get insights about our application's operation. In this session, I will uncover logging best practices, some situations where logging helped us find bugs early, solve difficult problems in time and keep the successful business up and running smoothly.

Moving from A and B to 150 microservices, the journey, and learningsGeshan Manandhar
Are you frustrated working with large, legacy and potentially lethal code bases? We were frustrated too, but in 4-5 years of time, we replaced A (front-end) and B (back-office) system with ~150 microservices. From the days of no tests and clumsy deployment process, we moved to each service with unit tests, CI and deploying with a bot. With the business buying in the process, we enabled the business to reach new heights. This talk reveals that journey and the things we learned along the way.
Adopt a painless continuous delivery culture, add more business valueGeshan Manandhar
A talk for DevOps Days Portland (PDX) 2017 - Aug 1.
A continuous delivery of new features definitely adds value to the business, it should be effortless for the tech team too. 5 years back our sys-admin team was in Istanbul and the dev team was in Dubai. Even then changes were shipped periodically but the process was cumbersome. A stable delivery pipeline with tests, continuous integration and small atomic deployments with GitHub flow gives us a leading-edge. The culture of logging and monitoring ingrained in our team helps us move fast. Now, we ask a chatbot to deploy our microservices several times a day to production. In this session, I will unveil details on how you can get started with a smooth continuous delivery pipeline one step at a time.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
