DRUG PRESENTATION
 NAME OF DRUG :- Aspirin
 PHARMACOLOGICAL NAME :-Albendazolum
 TRADE NAME :-Albenza, Zentel, Valbazen
 ACTION:- Aspirin blocks pain impulses by blocking COX-1 in CNS, Reduces
inflammation by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis; Antipyretic action results from
vasodilation of peripheral vessels; Decreases platelet aggregation.
PHARMACOKINESTICS
Enteric metabolized by liver, Inactive metabolites excreted by kidneys; crosses
placenta; Excreted in breast milk; Half life 15-20 min, up to 9hr in large dose; Rectal
products may be erratic; protein binding 90%.
 PO: Onset 15-30min ,peak 1-2hr, duration 4-6 hr, well absorbed
 PO: Enteric coated: onset 10-30min ,duration 2-4 hr; Solution: onset 10-30min, peak
15-30 min, duration 2-4hr
 RECT: Onset slow, duration 4-6hr.
INDICATION
 For the treatment of mild to moderate pain or fever, including rheumatoid arthritis
(RA).
 For the treatment of osteoarthritis, thromboembolic disorders
 For the treatment of rheumatic fever
 For the treatment or secondary prophylaxis of MI, ischemic stroke, angina, acute MI,
Kawasaki disease.
CONTRA-INDICATION
 It is contraindicated in any person with known hypersensitivity to albedazole, the
benzimidazole class of compound or any product component.
DOSAGE
 ADULTS :- 3200mg/day
 ADOLESCENTS:-800mg/day
 CHILDREN:-800mg/day
 ROUTE:- Oral
PRECAUTION
 Pregnancy, children, infants, neonates, seizures, anemia, hepatic disease, biliary
tract disease, severe hypertention.
SIDE- EFFECT:-
 Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
 dizziness, spinning sensation
 headache
 temporary hair loss
NURSING RESPONSIBILITIES
 These are the imp things the nurse should include in conducting assessment,
history taking and examination.
 Assess for mentioned cautions and contraindications to prevent any untoward
complications.
 Perform a through physical assessment to establish baseline data before drug
therapy and to evaluate for occurrence of any adverse effects associated with drug
therapy.
 Assess the patient’s liver function, including liver function test to determine
appropriateness of therapy and to monitor for toxicity.
 Assess the abdomen to evaluate for any changes from baseline related to the
infection, identify possible adverse effects and monitor for improvement.
