Dear Students,
As you know, the main purpose of Turkish meeting is to improve your English speaking skills. Beside
this, you will learn more about acting via drama. We have chosen the nature as the main topic of the
drama activities. So, here you will learn cruial information about this subject then, inform the audience
related to the importance of the nature.
During the meeting, you will work with your international groups. There will be 8 groups and each
group will have 3 students. We have divided the drama activities into 3 different section. The first one is
drama groups (3 acting groups), the second one is a fact group and the last one is competition groups
(2 main and 4 sub groups).
And, I would like to thank to Mrs. Bengi HURRIYETOGLU and Ms. Çiğdem ÇOLAKOĞLU who
are English teachers and have written the drama texts and prepared these wonderful activities for all
of you. They will be with you throughout the whole week and will direct the activities.
During Turkish meeting, you will not only improve your English proficiency but also you will have
a wonderful friendship, and get a chance to enrich your information about Turkish culture. It will be
reallygreat honour for us to host you. We are lookingforward to see you in Turkey.

In the first half of the program, the drama groups will perform short plays about deforestation, global-
warming and nature. Besides, at the end of each drama performances, the fact group will take the stage,
and give information about the current statistics world-wide. The aim in these activities is to help the
audience focus on the topic and obtain information.
Language Use
In the plays the participants will find the opportunity to use future, past and present tenses and to
improve their vocabulary on environmental topics.
Preparation
Students who will take part in the project will have to learn their roles by heart, must be prepared for the
vocabulary which is related to the main topic.
In the second half of the program, the students will take part in a quiz show inspired by the TV show
Jeopardy. Two groups will choose the questions from different categories and will try to answer them
correctly to score points.
Language Use
Students will be asked questions prepared in A2 and B1 levels. As well as improving their grammar
skills, they will find chance to revise the vocabulary.
Preparation
Students must have foreknowledge of the vocabulary related to the main topic.

The students must memorize in the following informations before coming to Turkey.
Plants on the surface of the Earth have existed for around 400 million years.
Rainforests used to cover 14% of the Earth’s surface but due to deforestation now only cover
around 6%.
Every minute, forests the size of 20 football fields are cut down.
More than 25% of our medicines today come from rainforest plants. We have only explored 1%
of the plants available. Just imagine what diseases the 99% that have not been explored can cure!
Every day 50 to 100 species of plants and animals become extinct as their habitat and human
activities destroy them.
27.000 trees are cut down each day so we can have toilet paper.
When you throw plastic bags and other plastic materials in the ocean,it kills as many as 1 million
sea creatures annually.
A glass bottle will take more than 4000 years to decompose.
Recycling a single aluminium can will save enough electricity to power a TV for 3 hours.
Only 1% of plastic shopping bags are recycled.All newspapers in the U.K. are 100% recycled
paper.
Although it’s often assumed that logging is the main reason for deforestation, agriculture is the
1st cause .
12 to 17% of the annual greenhouse gas emissions are due to the loss of forests.

It’s estimated that every square mile of ocean has more than 45.000 pieces of plastic floating in
it.
By recycling just the Sunday newspaper,75.000 trees are saved.250 million trees would be saved
if all newspapers were recycled all year.
On average,each person produces about four pounds of garbage each day.That equals 1.5 tons of
solid waste each year.
There’s more CO2 in the atmosphere today than at any point in the last 800.000 years.
Since 1870,global sea levels have risen by about 8 inches(just over 20 cm).That’s actually a lot,
even though it doesn’t sound like much.
The last two decades of the 20th century were the hottest in 400 years.
Ice at Arctic is disappearing fast.By 2040 the region may have first completely ice-free summer.
Glaciers and mountain snows are increasingly melting.For instance,The Glacier National Park at
Montana now has just 27 glaciers,which were 150 in 1910.
Global warming will affect Norway the least and the country of Chad the most.
Due to global warming, the Amazon forest is turning into desert and the Sahara is becoming
greener.

A: What is woods? Are you kidding me? We can have picnics only in common rooms.
C: There were things called trees which provided oxygen gas naturally.
A: Naturally? !That’s incredible and it sounds old-fashioned. Now we can control gases.
B: Yeah! It’s so ridiculous. We’re so lucky we have these machines which supply us whatever we want.
C: Agree! You need years to grow a tree to create oxygen. Funny! Anyway, they had hard lives.
B: Guys! I’m starving. Anyone who wants capsules? I wonder what’s for dinner.
C: I hope it’s the blue one, my favourite.
B: Hey! Let’s have a picnic in the common room and be grateful for the technology we have.
