Shoppers are expected to spend more on back-to-school shopping this year, with an average of $488 anticipated to be spent. Most shoppers will do the majority of their shopping in physical stores, though technology purchases are more likely to be made online. Research is done digitally before purchases are made in stores. Spending is heaviest on traditional items like clothing, shoes, and school supplies, though those buying computers or gadgets will spend the most overall. Early shopping and following school-recommended lists influences higher spending.

5. Achieving an economy’s entrepreneurial potential requires
every part of society to be mobilized.
• Entrepreneurs must act as role models for young people by sharing their stories,
mentoring and encouraging the next generation of entrepreneurs.
• Governments must support the promotion of entrepreneurship amongst young
people.
• Education systems must equip young people with an enterprising spirit and global
mindset—from an early age.
unleasingideas.org
• Businesses must offer opportunities for their employees to develop entrepreneurial
abilities and work with educators to bring enterprise to life.
• The media must be inspired and encouraged to celebrate entrepreneurship, and
inform the public about the economic and social contribution of entrepreneurs.
• Social media must provide platforms that break down barriers, such as language, and
enable connections around the world.

6. Why organize a Global Entrepreneurship Week activity?
• We need people and organizations to help create an environment that allows
entrepreneurial behavior to flourish. It is important that young people believe in
themselves and strive to make their ideas happen, and they deserve
encouragement and support. The drive to nurture enterprising behavior needs
business, education, government, voluntary organizations and the media to work
together — no single sector or organization working in isolation can create
opportunities on this ambitious scale.
• Global Entrepreneurship Week is a great opportunity to showcase what
unleasingideas.org
thousands of organizations already do to help foster a culture that embraces
innovation, imagination and creativity.
• TiE Brussels is coordinating the GEW initiative in Belgium as the Lead Host in
cooperation with the Belgian Federation of Junior Enterprises.

29. For GEW 2012, TiE Brussels is partnering with
the Belgian Federation of Junior Enterprises
Today, Junior Enterprises are considered as the most entrepreneurial youth structure.
They stimulate and support the entrepreneurship spirit of the students, and are really
focused on business.
A research (made at the European Level) shows that more than 20% of former Junior-
Entrepreneurs are creating their own company within the two years after they have
been graduated from their schools. While 7% is the average number for non Junior
Entrepreneur in Europe.
Junior Enterprise students are committed and motivated : junior entrepreneurs are
unleasingideas.org
always seeking for practice, trainings and networking.
The Junior Enterprises network is searching for visibility among the entrepreneurship
world in Belgium.

30. Belgian Federation of Junior Enterprises (Jade Belgium)
Definition : A Junior Enterprise is a local non profit organization entirely managed
by students. Related to their field of studies the students offer consulting services to
the market; experiencing unique learning opportunities by doing professional project
work on the one side and managing small- to medium sized enterprises on the other,
by doing this the students add practical experience to their theoretical skills. Most
Junior Enterprises are linked to universities or schools.
Goals: promote the professionals skills and develop entrepreneurial skills directly by
proposing business project related to real and effective companies.
unleasingideas.org
A growing network : today we are covering more than 4 universities in Belgium
(Leuven, Louvain la Neuve, Liège, Mons) but our network is growing with new
universities (Solvay, Ichec, HUB, …) and our aim is to cover all the biggest schools
and universities in Belgium.
An international organization: the Belgian Federation is part of the JADE network, an
European wide umbrella organization covering more than 20.000 students in Europe.

31. Junior Enterprise Challenge
- In order to show our commitment to the entrepreneurship spirit in Belgium, the Belgian Federation
of Junior Enterprises decided with TiE Brussels to organize their own event for GEW 2012. This
event is based on a business game principle : we will allow students among all the Belgian
universities to challenge themselves in various entrepreneurial skills.
- The game will be hold through internet during five days, working on different topics related to
entrepreneurship. Each day students will have to manage new challenges : how to manage your
prospection, how to run a business project, how to recruit, … All theses challenge are directly
related to the main aspects of a Junior Enterprise, but also to those of real companies.
- By the end of these five days, all the participants will be invited to present their result to a special
unleasingideas.org
event in Louvain la Neuve. This event will gather all the existing network (more than 200 people
from Junior Enterprises, public sector and private companies) but also all the people interested in
youth entrepreneurship. Our aim is to make a public presentation of the results in order to select
the best project and to launch a new Junior-Enterprise.
- The Junior Enterprise Challenge project is thus really focused on entrepreneurship, it will not just
support the entrepreneurship spirit, it will also and above all focus on results and create new
Junior Enterprises in Belgium.
