BRIEF DETAILS OF PROJECT EXECUTION AT SAC
Project 1:
Title:Snow Cover Monitoringof some basins of Himalaya using AWiFSdata.
Objective: To estimate and know the trend of actual snow cover percentage (amount of snow) in each of the glacierized
basinsof Himalayasforeach monthina year.
Contribution: Image to Image registration of available AWiFS data for the whole year, extracting the snow cover using
NDSI(normalizeddifference snowindex)oneachbasinsandsub-basinsof Himalayas,Generatingstatisticsandmaps.
Project 2:
Title:GlacierMass Balance estimationof some basins of Himalaya using AWiFSdata.
Objective: To estimate glacier mass balance (usually referred as total loss or gain in a glacier mass at the end of
hydrological year) bythe accumulationarearatio(AAR) method.
Contribution: Image to Image registration of AWiFS data of dates from August to September (because during that dates
glaciers are fully exposed), Interpretation and delineation of snowline of glaciers, Extracting the area of accumulation
and deriving the accumulation area ratio, deriving mass balance for each glacier for a particular year. Generating
statisticsandmaps.
Project 3:
Title:GlacierInventory studiesofsome basinsof Himalaya usingLISS III data.
Objective: To map various glacier and non glacier features of Himalayas and generate a detailed inventory /database for
SAC(ISRO).
Contribution: Image to Image registration of AWiFS/LISS III data, Mapping of various glacier features like accumulation
zone, ablation zone, deglaciated valley, moraines, snowfields, moraine dammed lakes, snout etc.., Preparing glacier
inventorydatasheet,preparationof maps.
Project 4:
Title:Tree line Atlas line for IndianHimalaya
Objective: To derive current, past and medieval vegetation as well as tree line at higher altitudes of Himalayas using
LISS III, MSS and TM data to know the current vegetation status and for analyzing the change in shift of vegetation and
tree line athigheraltitudes.
Contribution: Converting DN to Radiance, generating reflectance images, generating NDVI images. Mapping the tree line
and vegetationline from LISS III, TM, and MSS. Extracting maximum and lowest height using DEM, Identify the maximum
shiftzone invegetationaswell tree line.Generatingstatisticsandpreparationof mapsusingARCMAP.
Project 5:
Title:DEM, LCP generationand DQC of TMC and HYSI data of Chandrayaan
Objective: To generate DEMs, lunar control points (LCP) for TMC data and data quality checking of HYSI data of
chandrayaan.

3. Contribution: To generate DEMs and Ortho image using Leica photgrammetry suite and Lunar mapping software. Like
GCPS for georeferencing here we are generating LCPS for orienting lunar TMC data with already referenced Clementine
data. This is done in GEMS, ISRO’s own customized software. Secondly data quality checking for TMC and HYSI data for
line lossordata lossor any otherabnormalityinthe data.
