Executive Summary:
In thissurveyreport,Italkabout the renovationof DowntownArlington.Iexplainmymethodology
behindeveryquestionIgive,presentmyfindingsandanalyze the results.The following questionsare:
1. How oftendoyougo to any of the Downtownsinthe DFWarea (like FortWorth'sSundance
Square or UptownDallas) or inothercities(like Austin)?
2. Do youlike/enjoybeinginanyDowntown?
3. If DowntownArlingtonwasrenovatedandbecame similartoFortWorth's Sundance Square or
UptownDallas,wouldyouvisitmore often?
4. In DowntownArlington,Youwouldliketosee more of: Multiple Options.
5. The City of Arlingtonshouldremoveall formof industrialareas/activityfromthe Downtownand
strictly make itcommercial andresidential.
6. The City of Arlingtonshouldbuildbridgesoverthe railwayforbusystreets(like Cooperand
Collins)
Introduction:
The city of Arlingtonis a fairlylarge city,ranking51st
in the US (Baruch College,2014 Estimates).
Arlingtonhasalwaysbeenaverysuburbancity,butwith itsgrowingpopulation,itssuburbanvibemay
change in the future.Eastand Westof thiscity, youhave Dallasand Fort Worth. Both citieshave a
downtownandskyline,givingeachof these cities itsowncharacterandpersonality likeanyotherlarge
cityin the world.Unlike Arlington,itsdowntownisneglected,inmyopinion.Inthiscase,Idecidedto
conduct a surveyaboutthisissue, tosee if Arlingtonianslike me have the same feelingsabout its
downtownornot.
Methodology:
Making a surveyaboutthissubjectgivesme agood lookonwhetherArlingtonianswouldlike tosee a
renovatedDowntownlike me.Myfirstquestionwas how oftendoyouvisitthe downtownsof the DFW
area like FortWorth’s Sundance Square andUptownDallas,or any othercity such as Austin.Thisgives
me an ideaon whetherArlingtonians have the desiretogoto downtowns oftenornot, because there
may be a lot of people wholive insuburbsjusttogetawayfrom the city.Speakingof which, this
considerationledme toaskthe questionif youenjoybeinginthe downtown.Afterwards, the next
questionwaswouldyouvisitDowntownArlingtonmore oftenif itwere to be renovatedlike Uptown
Dallasor Sundance Square. Some peoplemightnotgoto Dallasjustto be in itsdowntown, butmaybe
theywouldvisitArlington’sif itexisted.Gettingmore specific,Ilovedtoaskabout whatyoulike tosee
more of inDowntownArlington,like Parks,Shops,Restaurants,Transportation,andSecurity,all the
thingsthat are commonlyfoundindowntowns. The nextquestionwasanopinionregardingzoningof
the downtown, inwhich The Cityof Arlingtonshouldremove all formof industrialareas/activityfrom
the Downtownandstrictlymake itcommercial andresidential.The reasonIaskedthisquestionis
because Ibelieve thataproperdowntownhasnoindustrial activity whatsoever,becauseitmaycause
the downtowntolooklike alesssafe,lesswalkable,andlessappealingplace tobe,atleastin my
opinion. The lastquestionmighthave seemedoff-topic,inwhich The Cityof Arlingtonshouldbuild
bridgesoverthe railwayforbusystreetslike CooperandCollins. Butaswe all know, itcouldget uglyin
the rush hourwhena train, especiallylong ones, decidestocome by. Thisway,if there isa bridge where
all commuterscouldeasilypassbywithouttrouble,thishelpsthe downtownfrombeingcongested.
Regardlessof the downtown, Ithink mostof uswouldagree onthisissue nonetheless because beingin
a rush, thistrainmay be a nightmare sometimes.
Findings:
On withthe results,there are manydifferentanswersgiven,alotof mixedviews.The firstquestionwas
“How oftendoyougo to any of the Downtownsinthe DFW area(like FortWorth's Sundance Square or
UptownDallas) or inothercities(like Austin)?”
The resultsabove seemaboutequal onopposite sides, butit’sslightlyleanedmore onvisitingthe
downtownmore oftenthannot.Onthe questionregardingyourfeelingsaboutadowntown,“Doyou
like/enjoybeinginanyDowntown?”.The resultwere aroundtwo-thirds(22) yes,arounda fifth(7) are
neutral,anda few(4) say no. Notmany seemtodislike the downtown.The nextquestionis“If
DowntownArlingtonwasrenovatedandbecame similartoFortWorth’s Sundance Square orUptown
Dallas,wouldyouvisitmore often?” The majority,aroundtwo-thirdsagain,respondedyes(21),around
a quarter (8) saidnot sure,and a fewsaidno (4).The nextquestionismore detailed,
Overall, all responsesare leanedonthe agree side, some more thanothers.Restaurants/Café’sand
Securityare bothmost agreedupon, BikinglanesandPublicTransportationare lessleanedtothe
agreementside, butmostpeopleare neutral aboutthem anditis still leanedtowards the agreement
side. Off tothe nextquestion, “The cityof Arlingtonshouldremove all formof industrial areas/activity
fromthe Downtownandstrictlymake itcommercial andresidential”.The responsesare almost
perfectlycutintothirds.Also,it’sthe onlyquestionI’ve gotmore disagreements (11) onthan
agreements (10),butonlybyone person.And still,mostpeopleare neutral (12) aboutthisissue rather
than agree or disagree, butonlybyone personmore than no.Finally, the lastquestion,“The cityof
Arlingtonshouldbuildbridgesoverthe railwayforbusystreets(like CooperandCollins)”. Everybody
exceptone personisneutral oragrees,whichthe majoritydoes(abouttwo-thirds,21),on building
bridgesoverthe railwayforbusystreets.Soyeah,we all know how itfeelswhenaverylongtrain
decidestocome by inthe rush hourwhenwe’re alreadylate forclassor work.
Conclusion:
All inall,I can conclude thaton mostthings,Arlingtonians likeme ingeneral agree aboutthe thingsI’m
thinkingaboutforDowntownArlington.A downtownisthe heartof a city,itscenterof culture,
business,leisure,andmanymore.A downtowngivesanycityinthe worlditsunique taste,personality,
and vibe. Ibelieve adowntownforArlingtonwouldmake thiscitystandoutmore,it’sgoodforits
economyandreputation.Notonlyit’sgoodforArlington,butforthe whole DFWarea,because itwill
make the DFW an area of not two majorcities, butthree, which givesasubstantial amountof value and
importance tothis alreadygreatmetropolitanarea.

Recommendations:
Nowthat I’ve analyzedthe resultsandcame intothe conclusion, letme listyoumyrecommendations
for creatinga nice downtown:
