1. MEMORIES OF LIFE
1. WHEN ALL HOPE IS GONE
WHEN thingsgo wrongas theysometimeswill
Whenthe road you are, all seemsuphill
Whenfundsare lowanddebtsare high
Whenyouwant to smile buthave tosigh.
Whencare ismore thanyou can handle
Andyou believe youare goingunder
Andyou are about to fall apart
But! You justgetup,
Dressup and showup
No matterhowyou feel.
It isthenyou rememberthat,
There are people wholive
Notbecause itis illegal tokill them
But because theyare meant,
To be a blessinginyourlife.
Because theyoughtto make yousmile
Andforgetyour worries!!!

3. 3. THE ROARING LION WITHIN
ALL people dreambut not in the same way,
Others dream by nightand wake up to void
But we,the ladiesofMGH dream by the day
Withopen eyesand make dreamscome true.
Others see thingsand say, Why???
But we see things that neverwere,
And say, Why Not???
Great dreamersare invincible
We neverrush for the obvious
We aim to inspire, not to impress.
Even whenunder water we rise like fish
Underthe ground, we germinate like seeds
Even inthe sky, we soar high like eagles.
Our life at MGHSis rich with possibilities
We turn scars into stars,
Stumblingblocks into steppingstones.
Because we do not settle for less
No chance, no fate nor destiny
Can preclude determinedsoulslike ours.
Whenthe way is rough,
Our patience grows
And we stand the ground for,
WINNERSNEVER QUIT!!!
N.B: IN DEDICATION TO MY SCHOOL, MABELREIGN GIRLS’ HIGH (MGHS).
4. 4. THE IDEAL FRIEND
THERE is a purpose
For everyone you meet
Some will teach you,
Test you and use you.
But most important
Are those who bring out
The bestin you,
Whoneedyou
Whorespect you
Whoaccept you
For who you are.
These are the people
You shouldnot lose hold of
These are the ones to cherishmost
And keepby your side
As your friendsforever!!!
N.B: IN DEDICATION TO MY FRIENDS ESPECIALLY FADZAI CHOGUGUDZAANDTHEMBELANI
CHIKHAMBI, AMONGSTOTHERS.
5. 5. WHAT IS OUR LIFE?
WHAT is our life?
If one moment is brightand cheery
And the nextis dark and cloudy
What is our life?
What is our life?
Wheneach and every day of our life
Has a battle to be fought,
Rejectionby society
Racism by other nations
Discriminationand stigmatization
Whichfill the fewdays we have,
What is our life?
Whenwe think we have won
And want to celebrate
We succumb to uncalledfor
Heart breakingexperiences
Death of a lovedone
Incurable diseasesfall on us
What is our life,then?
What is our life?
If injustice prevails
Even inthe courts ofjustice
Withpeople as mercilessas death
Seekinglivesday and night
Causingunbearable pain
To thousands of people.
Childrenleada cruel life instreets
Motherscry at the sight of abuse
Wivesare illegallydivorceddaily
Domesticviolence is the major court case
If these are the experiences,
What is our life?
Political strife causes grudges
Economic instabilitypavesway for poverty
Social differencesnevercreate a truce,
What is our life?
N.B: THIS POEM WONFIRST GRADE POSITION IN THE NATIONALINSTITUTE OF ALLIED ARTS FESTIVAL,
2013.
6. 6. WHEN LOVE GROWSCOLD…
LOVE is blind
They all say
But love isnot blind.
Because it seesmore
It is willingto see less.
Whenlove beginsto see
It seesmore
More ofwhat it neversaw before
More ofthe undesirable traits
More ofthat which makes one
Hate the once loved
And eventuallyitgrows cold.
So cold the once loved
Becomesthe un-loveable
So cold, no feeling
Nor passion isexpressed
So cold, the love extended
Is neverreturnednor received.
7. 7. TIME FOR GOODBYE
IT’S hard to say goodbye
It’s hard to letgo.
But, the clock
Has struck twelve…
It’s time to say GOODBYE.
Our moments together
Are forevercherished.
It was nice beingwith you,
It was funwatching you
Playingyour ‘games’
But, l must say, with tears,
GOODBYE!!!
Farewell,mydear
We meetto part
We part to meet.
Goodbye …
8. 8. THE ROAD TO SUCCESS
THE road to successis not straight
There are speedhumpscalledfailures,
Caution lightscalledlow funding
Red lightscalledreal enemies
Greenlightscalledunemployment.
But ifyou have,
An engine calledfaith,
Headlightscalledencouragement
A steeringwheel calleddetermination
And a drivercalledJesus
You can make it to SUCCESS!!!
9. 9. HOLDING ON
PICKING the positive from the negative
Making an inevitable change
Taking the right turn at a crossroad
Taking a path where there isno path
And leavinga trail behind.
Steppingup the ladder
All alone withoutsupport
Till l reach the top
Daring not to look down.
Gettingall the respect
I deserve isa pleasure
Yetl do not forget
The sweat I wiped
Off my forehead
And will not forget
The sweat l am
Still to wipe off.
For I am still venturingup the stairs
Am not just staring up the stairs.
10. 10. GOOD LEADERSHIP
The world has a need
A needso vital and inevitable
A thirst that can only be quenched,
Hunger that can only be filled,
By the rise ofthe leaders.
Leaderswho cannot
Be bought nor sold
Leaderswho will stand
Their ground no matter what
Leaderswho will stand
Head and shoulderabove all.
Leaderswho do not
Comprise theirintegrity.
Wholead with nothing
But fairnessand firmness.
Whowill take a sure and confident
Step,along the path
Whowill never falter
No stumble nor fail.
To the school leadersgatheredhere,
I say,
Make hay while the sun shines
Perfectyour character today,
For your character designs
Your lifestyle anddestiny.
Always remember
A true leaderwill always
Leave a mark of excellence!!!

11. 11. THE EXTRA-ORDINARY IN THE ORDINARY
Great people are ordinary people
Withextra-ordinary determination
Their inspirationcomesfrom within.
They look upwards for divine intervention
Sidewaysfor information
And neverdownwards for disappointment.
Constructive criticism istheir life
Vividdreams feel their nights.
Every day is a realityof the dream.
They do not saunter
Aimlesslywithoutdirection
Rather, they march
Withconfidence torwards the goal.
They fightrestlessly
day and night
to exceedthe limit
for they know no limit.
12. 12. THE CLOSED BOOK
Sittingalone in a corner
Coveredwith dust and webs
All alone in the corner.
No one to flipthrough the pages
Not evendust it
Nor put it among other books.
How the book wishesto be read
And inspire many
And change many lives
For in it,
Wordsof life are contained.
13. 13. WHOLISTIC LEARNING
The world of booksis the most
Remarkable creationof man…
Every man who knows
How to read has it,
In his own power
To magnify himself
To multiplyways
In which he exists
To make his life
Full significantand interesting.
Books alone cannot play the game,
They needthe helpof the educationist
Whoinstructs and corrects
The mistakesof the student,
Upliftingthe intellectual development.
Through the science, arts and commercial subjects.
The physical aspect of human life
Is brought into the picture too
Through sports and clubs
The mightierthe hand
The sharper the mind
The broader the chancesof survival.
The mediaplays a vital role,
In bringingout the reality oflife
This exposure to such dire situation
Helpsone fitin like a jig-sawpuzzle
To bring about a remarkable change
To give hope to the hopeless
In this dyingworld of doom.
Socializationand interaction
Withvarious ethnicgroups,
Through film,drama,musicand dance
Through cultural exchange and workshops,
Fosterscooperation and respect
Regardlessof race, creed
Affiliationoracademic achievements.
Home-schoolingisa necessity
As a bridge, taking over the student
To the other side of life
Norms and valuesof one’sfamily
Shouldbe impartedto everygenerationwithoutfail.
14. This harmoniouscombination
Of the formal with the informal
Of the theoretical and the practical
Brings about a complete being
Dependable andacceptable
Withinour societysetup.
14. THAT’S WHAT IT’S ALL ABOUT
Fallingand rising up again
Making mistakes,learningand livingon
Putting on a smile
Even whenthings aint right
Neverloweringthe standards for anyone
But meetingthemat your level.
That’s what it’s all about!
Education calls for you,alone
To fight the battle
To unleash the greatnessin you
To let the lionroar
And mark your own territory.
So when you feel
Like givingup,
Take a look at where you are
Rememberthe past and tell yourself:
Am almost there,
It’s just a step left!
15. 15. SUSTAINABLE PEACE FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Turning scars intostars
Putting out fire without usingfire
Is the onlyway for a sustainable future.
To many this seemsimpossible
But to us the youths
It is possible
For we see thingsthat neverwere
And say why not ?
Gave obligationsfor tomorrow
Lie inour hands
It beginswith you and me
By being a friend
Withouta bombin hand
By simply beingin
Harmony with your brother
By respectingeveryone
Regardlessof race creedor affiliation.
Only whenwe considerthis
As a time to act
Can we create room for
Developmentinall life’sspheres.
Only whenwe take a stance
To put an end to political and social strife
Can we enjoysustainable peace
And reap a sustainable future!

16. 16. THE CHAITABLE HEART
BENEVOLENT, PHILANTHROPIC
And of kind dispositionis
The anatomic muscular organ
Withinthe human body.
Characterizedwith such unselfishtraits,
It giveslife to all.
Its liberal action giveslife to all
Pumpingand circulatingblood,
Never!Witha fault or imperfection
But, with precise accuracy
So necessaryfor survival of one.
The heart;
As charitable as it is
Givesa vital functionality
To every single cell
Enabling metabolismto take place
For everyticking second.
Such sentimentsofa bountiful nature
Cooperateswhollywith restlessness
The heart, continuously,pumps
Oxygenatedbloodto the body
De-oxygenatedbloodto the lungs
Receivesand circulatesit to the body
Withouta break inthe cycle.
Yet,it is so sad
The charitable heart
Labours in vain
Futile are its gains
After such a generouswork.
Heart failure!Cardiac arrest!
Coronary heart disease
They name it
And yet theycause it
The fate ofthe charitable heart!
Such poor conditions
Bring to an end
The cherishedworks
