Change Data Capture to Data Lakes Using Apache Pulsar and Apache Hudi - Pulsa...StreamNative
Apache Hudi is an open data lake platform, designed around the streaming data model. At its core, Hudi provides a transactions, upserts, deletes on data lake storage, while also enabling CDC capabilities. Hudi also provides a coherent set of table services, which can clean, compact, cluster and optimize storage layout for better query performance. Finally, Hudi's data services provide out-of-box support for streaming data from event systems into lake storage in near real-time.
In this talk, we will walk through an end-end use case for change data capture from a relational database, starting with capture changes using the Pulsar CDC connector and then demonstrate how you can use the Hudi deltastreamer tool to then apply these changes into a table on the data lake. We will discuss various tips to operationalizing and monitoring such pipelines. We will conclude with some guidance on future integrations between the two projects including a native Hudi/Pulsar connector and Hudi tiered storage.
ksqlDB is a stream processing SQL engine, which allows stream processing on top of Apache Kafka. ksqlDB is based on Kafka Stream and provides capabilities for consuming messages from Kafka, analysing these messages in near-realtime with a SQL like language and produce results again to a Kafka topic. By that, no single line of Java code has to be written and you can reuse your SQL knowhow. This lowers the bar for starting with stream processing significantly.
ksqlDB offers powerful capabilities of stream processing, such as joins, aggregations, time windows and support for event time. In this talk I will present how KSQL integrates with the Kafka ecosystem and demonstrate how easy it is to implement a solution using ksqlDB for most part. This will be done in a live demo on a fictitious IoT sample.
Performance Analysis of Apache Spark and Presto in Cloud EnvironmentsDatabricks
Today, users have multiple options for big data analytics in terms of open-source and proprietary systems as well as in cloud computing service providers. In order to obtain the best value for their money in a SaaS cloud environment, users need to be aware of the performance of each service as well as its associated costs, while also taking into account aspects such as usability in conjunction with monitoring, interoperability, and administration capabilities.
We present an independent analysis of two mature and well-known data analytics systems, Apache Spark and Presto. Both running on the Amazon EMR platform, but in the case of Apache Spark, we also analyze the Databricks Unified Analytics Platform and its associated runtime and optimization capabilities. Our analysis is based on running the TPC-DS benchmark and thus focuses on SQL performance, which still is indispensable for data scientists and engineers. In our talk we will present quantitative results that we expect to be valuable for end users, accompanied by an in depth look into the advantages and disadvantages of each alternative.
Thus, attendees will be better informed of the current big data analytics landscape and find themselves in a better position to avoid common pitfalls in deploying data analytics at a scale.

Spark is fast and general engine for large-scale data processing and has been designed to provide a more efficient alternative to Hadoop MapReduce. Spark Streaming brings Spark's language-integrated API to stream processing, letting you write streaming applications the same way you write batch jobs. It supports both Java and Scala.
Kafka Streams is the stream processing solution which is part of Kafka. It is provided as a Java library and by that can be easily integrated with any Java application.

The project was released by Confluent in 2017 and is hosted on Github and developed with an open-source spirit. ksqlDB is built on top of Apache Kafka®, a distributed event streaming platform. In this talk, we discuss ksqlDB’s architecture that is influenced by Apache Kafka and its stream processing library, Kafka Streams. We explain how ksqlDB executes continuous queries while achieving fault tolerance and high vailability. Furthermore, we explore ksqlDB’s streaming SQL dialect and the different types of supported queries.
Matthias J. Sax is a software engineer at Confluent working on ksqlDB. He mainly contributes to Kafka Streams, Apache Kafka's stream processing library, which serves as ksqlDB's execution engine. Furthermore, he helps evolve ksqlDB's "streaming SQL" language. In the past, Matthias also contributed to Apache Flink and Apache Storm and he is an Apache committer and PMC member. Matthias holds a Ph.D. from Humboldt University of Berlin, where he studied distributed data stream processing systems.

ksqlDB is a streaming database that uses Kafka Streams to execute queries against data in Apache Kafka®. Historically, each query was compiled into its own Kafka Streams program to be executed inside the ksqlDB servers. As ksqlDB moved to support broader and more complex use cases, this query execution strategy became the bottleneck for scaling up the number of persistent queries. This talk will examine the problems faced and how we addressed them.
Using too many Kafka Streams instances requires too many resources in both threads and consumers. One way to avoid this is using Modular Topologies, which are coming to Kafka Streams in KIP-809. Modular Topologies allow us to dynamically change the workload of a Kafka Streams application while it’s running and share resources such as consumer/producer clients and processing threads. This makes it possible to use a single Kafka Streams runtime for multiple topologies that share consumers and threads across them. We will see in detail how this makes it possible for ksqlDB to consolidate queries into a shared Kafka Streams runtime.
Kafka Streams developers will take away from this talk an understanding of how to utilize ModularTopologies, and dynamically upgrade their Kafka Streams workload effectively.

Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. For example, in a quotation process, requests for quotations are commonly received by fax, output
and distributed to the person in charge, who then prepares a set of quotation document by compiling
a quotation letter, specifications sheet and drawings together in paper format. The completed paper
document is then faxed to the requestor and a copy is stored away separately in a cabinet to be kept
as a record.
With digitalisation, requests for quotations can be received as paperless fax documents.
Upon registering a job request at the multifunction device, the document will be forwarded
automatically to the computer of the person in charge. He or she will then create a set of
quotation document with DocuWorks 7, and send it to the requestor electronically. At the same
time, a copy of the quotation can be stored away in the Document Management System (DMS),
such as DocuShare, to allow efficient and secured sharing among users in the network.
