The client has asked me to produce a documentary for the British Museum about their upcoming Lewis Chessmen exhibit. The documentary will use common documentary conventions like interviews, archival footage, voiceovers, and text to introduce viewers to the unique 12th century chess pieces made of walrus ivory. 67 of the 78 chessmen are housed at the British Museum, while the others are at the National Museum of Scotland, so the film will also touch on the debate around where the collection should be permanently located. The target audience is anyone interested in learning more about these fascinating chess pieces.

I have been asked to produce a documentary for the British Museum to accompany their Lewis Chessmen exhibit.
Research notes about British museum
The British museum was established in 1753 filled with physician and scientist named Sir Hans Sloane. The museum
was open to the public on January 15th 1759 in Montagu house in Bloomsbury. The British museum is one of the
biggest museums in the world because it contains all different types of things.
Research notes about Lewis chessmen
The Lewis chessmen were found in uig bay in the isle of Lewis in the year 1831. The Chessmen are a group of 78 12th
century chess pieces and they are made out of walrus ivory which makes it very valuable. 67 of the chess pieces are
currently held in the British museum and the other 11 pieces are held in the national museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.
There is some controversy about where the pieces should be kept, some believe that they should be kept in Scotland
where they were found and some think that they should be kept in the British museum and some don’t care.
Target audience
My documentary was targeted at people that wanted to either know more about the chess pieces to if they haven’t
seen them before to become familiar and start to be intrigued by them. My whole objective was to get everyone
interested in the chess pieces because I think they are very cool pieces.

In my documentary I want to use such conventions as Interviews, archival footage, Voice overs, camera shots, good
sound, good use of text.
