In the fast-paced world of marketing, standing still is the same as going backwards. Innovation is a necessity, not a choice.
On 9th February 2016, in partnership with SpredFast, we held Curiosity Stop: Innovate or Die at our London HQ. We gave the audience practical advice on how to innovate, and guest speakers from BBC Match of the Day, London College of Fashion and Shazam, along with some of We Are Social’s team, spoke about their perspective on innovation.
If you missed the event, fear not. Here are a few of the evening’s highlights.

The Evolution of Media Essay
Essay On Media Bias
1. Studied most types of media. Created copy for sports, travel, feature, radio, internet, television,
history and current events. Lived by the rules of Strunk and White from "The Elements of Style".
Strove to use one type of writing to relate to another, For example, taking a sporting event and
relating it to a current event. What do events like the Super Bowl, for instance, say about our
current society?
Media is an ever evolving field of study. It also straddles the line between art and science.
Creating a novel is art, for example. Gathering data for a Gannet poll on the other hand is
science. Media studies is always changing because communication is the diaspora of
information. Imagine a game of telephone. That sums up study of the media.
First off, we hear what we want to hear. Next, we are in control of the dissemination of
information. Consequently, we put our own "spin" or bias on the message. We may add things
that make our point, or leave info out to do the same. The conclusion is the totem of modern
Media Studies. Media not only tells us what to think about, it tells us what to think.
How? We base our world outlook on our environment. And our environment is based on the
information that we take in. We get our information through media, be it TV, social network
sights, apps, xm radio, mp3s, newspapers, magazines and newspapers.
The reason to study the Media is for its place in the modern global economy. Media can be
considered one of the most important products of the United States. Most of our blockbuster
movies only turn a profit when they are released around the world.
Take Jurassic World. If a person were to watch it without the sound on, though probably less
entertaining, the viewer would understand the plot. They would probably still be entertained as
well. Making a movie that is universally understood allows the movie studios to sell tickets
everywhere from Charleston to Calcutta. Big money. Jurassic World sold over $500,000,000 in 1
weekend. It will gross over $3 billion when all is said and done.
Media is arguably the most important US product. From Facebook to Google to the Apple
App store, it generates billions. It includes some of the biggest companies in our country, and
the world.
It has it's threats, though, Number 1 on that list is pirating. When Metallica cried over its songs
being stolen, maybe they weren't just being greedy, detached rock stars brats. Maybe they
could see the writing on the wall. Just like if you steal from Walmart, it hurts us because prices
go up. If somebody sells an unlicensed song or movie, it hurts the US economy. It's already
happened in music. Record companies are merging all the time, or going out of business. Yes, it
forces companies, artists and musicians to get creative. But without large sales for the record
company, there are no large budgets for the creation of records. Kanye West's "My Beautiful
Dark Twisted Fantasy" cost more than $3 million to make. It is regarded as one of the best
albums of the last decade. It sold 1.2 million copies.
2. The point is that if the record company didn't have $3 million, than it never would have gotten
made.
A good understanding of the modern media world is important in today's restaurant climate as
well. Corporate and private restaurants are using social media to get news of there product to
the consumers. A restaurant manager uses the media on a daily basis. The manager will use
yeelp to check reviews of there restaurant. They will use different sights, including craigslist, to
place wanted ads for new employees. They will announce upcoming events and specials on
facebook or a local blog. The modern restaurant manager reaches out to local critics from
magazines and newspapers to review there restaurant. Finally, more and more marketing is
taken place using new forms of media. Restaurants, for instance, are using online coupon sights
to promote offers. Online ordering, and ordering using apps has taken off with the advent of the
smartphone. Having a successful take-out business can add 25% to your gross annual revenue.
I apply the study of Media with restaurants. I use the media as a form of promotion, and as a
tool to get the latest information on the hospitality industry. A Restaurant manager can combine
the evolution of media and hospitality, and use its study to forecast the next trends in the
industry. Applying these trends can help to create a successful modern dining experience.
