Interval Time Trials
Tomorrow we prepare for our Lactate Threshold test by riding a
time trial profile. An individual time trial (ITT) is a road bi-
cycle race in which cyclists race alone against the clock. ITT's
are also referred to as "the race of truth", as winning depends
only on each rider's strength, endurance and determination
against the clock. We will simulate this in our spin room!
Time trial profiles are a test of many things - of your potential, of your training to
date, of your ability to hold a constant sustainable effort for a given distance, of your
pain tolerance, of your commitment to your sport. . .
Your goal is to keep a constant effort as much as possible - the highest sustainable
pace you can muster. If you go too hard at the beginning, you'll be forced to gradu-
ally slow down and you'll lose the race. If you go too easy, you'll also lose the race.
So be wise about your effort! I'll be coaching you to check in with your engine every
now and then - can you add a few more heart beats? Or do you need to subtract a
few to still arrive strong at the finish line?
1/2 and 2/3 of the way through the class , you will be asked to access how you feel.
You will either either turn it up a few, or pull the reins a little. Your objective: to fin-
ish strong. It won't be a sprint to the finish - if you have energy to sprint, then you
went too easily!
A time trial forces you to take control of your ride, make a mind body connection
and choose what to do. It's you against yourself, and against the clock. Just you,
yourself, your bike. This is the moment of truth!
THIS ONE ASKS A LOT FROM YOU. BE WELL RESTED,
HYDRATED, AND NOURISHED FOR OUR RIDE!!!!!
