2. Chapter-1 – About the Company
• BEML Limited(formerly Bharat Earth Movers Limited) was established in May 1964 as
a Public Sector Undertaking for manufacture of Rail Coaches & Spare Parts and Mining
Equipment at its Bangalore Complex. The Company has partially disinvested and
presently Government of India owns 54 percent of total equity and rest 46 percent is
held by Public, Financial Institutions, Foreign Institutional Investors, Banks and
Employees.
• The Company operates under three major Business verticals :
i) Mining & Construction
ii) Defense
iii) Rail & Metro
• The three verticals are serviced by nine manufacturing units located at Bangalore,
Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Mysore, Palakkad and Subsidiary - Vigyan Industries Ltd, in
Chikkamangalur District.
• BEML is Asia's second-largest manufacturer of earth moving equipment, and it controls
70% of India's market in that sector.

branch.
• The name of the departments in which I
worked on are Marketing, R&D, Product
Design, Planning, Purchase, Production,
Quality testing, Electrical and management of
stores.

ELECTRICAL POWER DISTRIBUTION
Generating station is hoody which gives power to HAL MUSS (master unit
substation),which is given to a department in BEML called Electrical
Maintenance room, which is the main receiving station (MRS) to BEML.
MUSS supplies 11KV, 2 individual HT underground cables, input source to
BEML which is received in MRS.
The transmitted electric power is stepped down in substations, for primary
distribution purpose. Now these stepped down electric power is fed to the
distribution transformer through primary distribution feeders.

 25kV, 50 Hz, single phase for overhead line(pantograph).
 750 V DC used for third rail system
 110 V used for lights, control system
 230 V, 50 Hz, single phase for charging ports
 24 V used for relays and connectors
 415 V AC, 50 Hz, 3 phase for compressor motor and air conditioners
 1450 V, 75 Hz, 3 phase for traction motor

12. Chapter-4 – Reflection Notes
• BEML limited is a place where manufacturing of heavy equipment’s is performed and I
was a part in the manufacturing of metro coaches and railway bogies.
• BEML Limited has proved to be true one among the modern temples of engineering of
India and BEML has proved beyond doubt that they are no less than their competitors in
the private sector. As I have seen and experienced, there is no dearth of expertise, talent,
professionalism and dedication of the workforce towards accomplishing the tasks and
targets in meeting delivery of products to its various customer segments.
• Today, I am proud to be associated with this esteemed organization as an intern and I am
fortunate to have the exposure across most of the departments and its industrial
functioning. Overall, it was a good learning and rewarding experience.
• This interaction gave me an insight and first-hand experience of industrial scenario
outside the institute curriculum.
