Objective of lesson
1. To understand the one baptism in
Ephesians.
2. To understand faith in relation to baptism.
3. To understand who is a candidate for
baptism.
Baptism is an immersion, a burial in
water.
• Romans 6:3-4 Know you not, that so
many of us as were baptized into Jesus
Christ were baptized into his death?
• Therefore we are buried with him by
baptism into death: that just as Christ was
raised up from the dead by the glory of the
Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life.
Baptism is an immersion, a burial in

• Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in
baptism, in which also you are risen with
him through the faith of the working of
God, who has raised him from the dead.
• Acts 8:38 And he commanded the chariot
to stand still: and they went down both into
the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and

Baptism is a command of God
• Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers
rejected the counsel of God against
themselves, being not baptized of him.
• Matthew 28:18-19 And Jesus came and
spoke unto them, saying, All power is given
unto me in heaven and in earth. Go you
therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father, and of thethem in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy SpiritSon, and of the Holy Spirit:
Baptism is a command of God
• Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you
in the name of Jesus Christ for the
remission of sins, and you shall receive
the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Must faith precede baptism?
• Acts 8:12 But when they believed Philip
preaching the things concerning the kingdom of
God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were
baptized, both men and women.
• Acts 18:8 And Crispus, the chief ruler of the
synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his
house; and many of the Corinthians hearing
believed, and were baptized.
Must faith precede baptism?
• Galatians 3:26-27 For you are all the
children of God by faithby faith in Christ Jesus.
• For as many of you as have been baptized
into Christ have put on Christ.
Must one repent before he is a
proper subject for baptism?
Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they
were pricked in their hearts, and said unto
Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and
brethren, what shall we do?
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and be baptized every one of you in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of
sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy
Spirit.
Must one be baptized to be saved?
• Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go
you into all the world, and preach the
gospel to every creature.
• Mark 16:16 He that believes and is
baptized shall be saved; but he that
believes not shall be condemned.
Must one be baptized to be saved?
• 1 Peter 3:20 Who formerly were disobedient, when
once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of
Noah, while the ark was being prepared, by which a
few, that is, eight souls were saved through watersaved through water.
• 1 Peter 3:21 The like figure unto which even
baptism does also now save usbaptism does also now save us (not the putting
away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a
good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of
Jesus Christ:
Must one be baptized to have his
sins washed away…be saved?
• Acts 22:16 And now why do you tarry?
arise, and be baptized, and wash away
your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
Are those who are baptized thus saved
and added daily, by the Lord, to His
Church?
• Acts 2:41 Then they that gladly received his
word were baptized: and the same day there
were added unto them about three thousand
souls.
• Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favor with
all the people. And the Lord added to the
church daily such as were being saved.
Are those who are baptized thus
saved and added daily, by the Lord, to
His Church?
• 1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit were we all
baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or
Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have
been all made to drink into one Spirit.
• Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit,
even as you are called in one hope of your calling;
One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and
Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and
in you all.
