DNA contamination is a serious issue in DNA profiling used for court cases. Proper processes like separate work areas and protective equipment are needed to avoid contaminating DNA samples during collection and testing. Significant contamination can undermine DNA evidence and wrongly influence court decisions, as shown in two examples where contamination affected the outcomes. DNA evidence is highly significant in modern courts when collected and tested properly, but even small errors in handling can have major legal consequences.
