Django is a Python-based web framework that emphasizes rapid development, pragmatism, and clean, elegant design. It was originally developed in 2005 as an internal framework for the Lawrence Journal-World newspaper. Django's philosophy is to embrace Python's simplicity and elegance, with an emphasis on DRY principles, loose coupling, and minimalist design. Django includes an object-relational mapper, an automatic admin interface, and a template language. It also provides internationalization support, caching, and other features for building powerful websites quickly. Django has a large, active community that has produced many additional projects and widely deployed Django in production environments.
