4. Character of Tom GradGrind
● Son of Thomas Gradgrind, member of parliament
● Brother of Louisa
● Louisa marries Bounderby, a friend of her father just because to secure
financial condition of her brother.
● He is selfish, emotionless.
● He ends up a degenerate gambler who robs Bounderby's bank to pay his
debts.
● He traps a labor of Bounderby, named Stephen Blackpool
● After trapping an innocent, he escapes from the country.
● When Stephen tries to return to clear his good name, he falls into a mining pit
and dies.
5. Déjà vu
● French term.
● Literally means, “already seen”
● Historically, the earliest account of déjà vu-like experience is referred to Saint
Augustine in 400 AD, who named it as “falsae memoriae”. The term déjà vu was
first used by Emile Boirac in 1876 in his Revue Philosophique, wherein he
mentioned “le sensation du déjà vu” to recall this experience in his letter to the

● Who is Vijay Mallya? :
● Vijay Mallya is an Indian businessman at present fighting extradition
from the UK. Mallya, who owes 17 Indian banks an estimated Rs 9,000
crore, is accused of fraud and money laundering in the country.
● Also a former Rajya Sabha member, Mallya is the ex-chairman of
United Spirits. He currently continues to serve as chairman of United
Breweries Group. Previously, he also served as chairman of Sanofi

● Started Kingfisher Airlines in 2005. His son Siddharth Mallya informs about
how Vijay Mallya was desperate for Kingfisher Airlines in Netflix
Documentary of ‘Bad Boy Billionaires’-
“It was his baby, he incubated it, he nurtured it, and then, finally, launched

● There was not a Business class in ‘Kingfisher Airlines’ as Vijay Mallya
says in one interview which has shown in Netflix Documentary-
“This is Kingfisher Class, this is neither business, nor is it economy, it’s
one class” .
● This Netflics Documentary shows that how Vijay Mallya took Loans
from big public sector banks, which ran by the money of Tax Payers.

IDBI 9, In Netflix Documentary,
“Vijay Mallya charmed the pants off these bankers. These were rather dowdy,
Poorly paid public servants.”
● He wanted to make Kingfisher Airlines more and more luxurious experience by borrowing
more and more money from tax banks and he didn’t much about costs.
● He merged Kingfisher Airline and Air Deccan.
● Took more and more loans from Public Banks. And not only just Airlines but also
expanded at sports also, Formula-1 and Cricket Team also.
● Kingfisher Airlines was grounded in 2012 after a burgeoning debt burden made it
impossible for the beleaguered airline to continue operations. The airline is also being
investigated for suspected diversion of funds and financial irregularities.
● Mallya was running out of money ‘for his business only’,There was no money to buy Fuel
for Kingfisher Airlines.
● Many workers of Kingfisher Airlines including designers, Pilots, and Airhostess.
● Netflix Documentary shows that how airhostess were giving their own food to the
passengers when they were running out of money.

● One lady committed suicide due to tight fiancial condition of her family because her
husband was being unpaid, who worked in Kingfisher Airlines.
● Employee were on strike and crisis were going on and on the other hand Vijay
Malllya was celebrating his 60th birthday with grand party.

our misery. It felt like he was glorifying our misery by showing us the disparity

11. ● This Documentary adds statement of Neeraj Monga- A Former,
Veritas Investment Research that,
“The loan is the example that has been used by the government
of India, that there was some kind of fraudulent activity and some
kind of relationship between the borrower, which is Kingfisher

12. Current situation of Vijay Mallya’s Case:
● Mallya left the country on March 2, 2016, the day a clutch of
public-sector banks moved the Debt Recovery Tribunal against
him. In January 2019, he was declared a fugitive economic
offender under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act.
● The Indian government is making all efforts to extradite Mallya
from the UK. In February 2019, UK Home Secretary approved
the extradition. The case is now pending in the London High
Court, where Mallya filed an appeal against the order. The
appeal has been listed for a three-day hearing from February 11,

● The recovery officer of a Debt Recovery Tribunal at Bengaluru has
told the Supreme Court that neither Vijay Mallya, who was
sentenced to four months in jail for contempt of court, nor any
other beneficiary of the transfer of funds case, have deposited any
amount with the tribunal till August 18. (“Vijay Mallya Hasn't Deposited
